Art as Enterprise Social and Economic Engagement in Contemporary Art
Grace McQuilten, "Art as Enterprise: Social and Economic Engagement in Contemporary Art "
English | ISBN: 1784534102 | 2016 | 248 pages | PDF | 21 MB
Art is produced, circulated, consumed and disseminated within an economic system - it depends on money for its creation, for the livelihood of its makers, and for its distribution. In this sense, art can be understood as an enterprising activity. However, profit-making is rarely the primary goal of artists, and indeed the entanglement of art with enterprise generates significant aesthetic, conceptual, philosophical and ethical challenges for contemporary art practice. Social enterprise has emerged from this complex terrain with the promise of an alternative model of economic organisation in the arts. Grace McQuilten and Anthony White argue that artists can, and have, engaged critically in the commercial market, by way of this model. Art as Enterprise brings a fresh perspective to the debate about the roles of contemporary art in consumer capitalist society.
Marina Aksenova, "Art, Aesthetics and International Justice"
English | ISBN: 1032605898 | 2025 | 190 pages | EPUB | 994 KB
This book demonstrates that art is implicit in the process of administration of international justice. The diverse nature of recent global threats as well as an overwhelming pull towards isolationism and nationalism challenge the dominant deterrence paradigm of international governance created in the aftermath of the Second World War. An alternative model is to focus on cooperation, and not deterrence, as a guiding operational principle.
This volume focuses on the theoretical component linking justice with aesthetics as well as on the practical manifestation of such connection evident, inter alia, in the rhetoric of international courts, their architectural design and their commemorative practices expressed by the practice of symbolic reparations adopted by some of the courts. The underlying premise of the book is that international justice requires new vocabulary and new approaches, which can be derived from the study of aesthetics. It is held that exploring the aesthetical dimension of international justice contributes to the discussion on the foundations of its authority and the grounds for compliance with it. The work engages deeply with the theory of aesthetics developed by Immanuel Kant and Abhinavagupta, a Kashmiri critic, philosopher and scholar writing in the early eleventh century.

Arterial Treatment of Neurological Diseases: Current Status and Future Directions
English | 2025 | ISBN: 3031801725 | 1329 Pages | PDF EPUB (True) | 121 MB
Drug delivery by injecting them through arteries poses unique challenges. The first attempts to treat malignant brain tumors by arterial injections were undertaken soon after World War II. Yet, the applications of arterial delivery in treating neurological diseases have not advanced significantly over the last seventy years. Although arterial drug delivery is used to treat several neurological conditions, its applications, other than for localization of brain functions, remain experimental and are unproven in robust scientific studies. Over the last two decades, interventional radiology has significantly advanced by developing catheter-based devices, but arterial drug development has largely been ignored. This book makes the case for arterial drug development. Unless drugs are developed explicitly for arterial injections, the vast potential of arterial treatments of neurological diseases will remain untapped.

At the Margins of Victorian Britain Politics, Immorality and Britishness in the Ni...
Dennis Grube, "At the Margins of Victorian Britain: Politics, Immorality and Britishness in the Nineteenth Century "
English | ISBN: 1780763441 | 2013 | 320 pages | PDF | 3 MB
Victorian Britain, at the head of the vast British Empire, was the wealthiest and most powerful country in the world. Yet, not all Britons were seen as possessing the characteristics that defined what it actually meant to be 'British.' At the Margins of Victorian Britain focuses on the political means of policing unwanted 'others' in Victorian society: the Irish, Catholics and Jews, atheists, prostitutes and homosexuals. In this groundbreaking study, Dennis Grube details the laws and conventions that were legally and culturally enforced in order to bar these 'others' from gaining power and influence in Victorian Britain. Utilizing a wide-ranging analysis, the book focuses on key case-studies: the anti-Semitism implicit in Lord Rothschild's barring from the House of Commons; the fine line between accepted male love and companionship and homosexuality, culminating in the Oscar Wilde trials of the 1890s; and how laws against disease were used to police prostitutes and correct moral vices. Political and legal rhetoric, backed by the force of legislation, set the boundaries of 'Britishness', and enforced those boundaries through the 'majesty' of British law. As Jews, Roman Catholics and atheists were brought into a genuine sense of partnership in the British constitution by being allowed to seek election to Parliament - homosexuals, prostitutes and the allegedly innately criminal Irish found themselves further and more vehemently displaced as the nineteenth century progressed. 'Otherness' stopped being a religious question and became instead a moral one. That fundamental shift marks the moment that 'Britishness' became a values-based question. And we've been arguing about what those values are ever since. This will be essential reading for those working in the fields of Victorian studies, social and cultural history and constitutional identity.
Atatürk on Screen Documentary Film and the Making of a Leader
Enis Dinç, "Atatürk on Screen: Documentary Film and the Making of a Leader"
English | ISBN: 1788312252 | 2020 | 256 pages | PDF | 4 MB
Mustafa Kemal Atatürk was not widely known when he led the national resistance movement in Anatolia in 1919. However, the effort and attention that his government devoted to the creation of his public image gradually turned him into a superhuman figure in the eyes of many. Film played a crucial role in the creation and dissemination of this image and helped Atatürk to advance his project of building a new "imagined community" of the Turkish nation. But despite the impact of film and film-making on the political and cultural life of Early Republican Turkey, there is almost no research that has analysed this footage.
Atatürk on Screen uncovers various film archives to reveal the significant, albeit paradoxical, role of film during this period. Enis Dinç shows that while film-making was crucial for the creation of Atatürk's public image and the presentation of Turkey's new modern image to the world, it also posed risks as it could be re-used, re-edited and re-framed for the purposes of counter-propaganda. The main analysis in the book is of the film footage itself, including rare contemporary cinematic sources which have never received comprehensive analysis before. The book also makes use of other primary sources such as letters, memoirs, newspapers, reports, newsletters and production files, providing readers with a multi-layered account of the period.

Aufstiegschancen von Frauen: Eine Untersuchung der Karrierewege in der Unternehmensberatung
Deutsch | 2025 | ISBN: 3658478896 | 269 Pages | PDF (True) | 3 MB
