Not much has changed in the last decade in treating leukemias in any case.
Last three years brought to the fore COVID, though still being discussed in the journals in the form of articles and papers, the basic accepted changes that blood undergoes have been lucidly introduced in the last chapter.
Not to forget the practical hematology, which was always an integral part of the previous six editions, has been duly presented too.
This book is aimed at undergraduate or postgraduate medical student, or a technologist running a clinic-side laboratory.
In the current century, automation has taken over to a great extent, however, unless one understands the basics and primary testing procedures one cannot grasp what a machine is doing and how. So tests of yesteryears are very much a part of this book as are random access walk-away automated systems.

In Works and Days, one of the two long poems that have come down to us from Hesiod, the poet writes of farming, morality, and what seems to be a very nasty quarrel with his brother Perses over their inheritance. In this book, Anthony T. Edwards extracts from the poem a picture of the social structure of Ascra, the hamlet in northern Greece where Hesiod lived, most likely during the seventh century b.c.e. Drawing on the evidence of trade, food storage, reciprocity, and the agricultural regime as Hesiod describes them in Works and Days, Edwards reveals Ascra as an autonomous village, outside the control of a polis, less stratified and integrated internally than what we observe even in Homer. In light of this reading, theconflict between Hesiod and Perses emerges as a dispute about the inviolability of the community's external boundary and the degree of interobligation among those within the village. Hesiod's Ascra directly counters the accepted view of Works and Days, which has Hesiod describing a peasant society subordinated to the economic and political control of an outside elite. Through his deft analysis, Edwards suggests a new understanding of both Works and Days and the social and economic organization of Hesiod's time and place.

The 25'" Coral Gables Conference was the culmination of the series that was begun in 1964. The conferences evolved under the titles that in~lude: Symmetry Principles at High Energy; Fundamental Interactions; Orbis Scientiae; and, occasionally, Unified Symmetry in the Small and in the Large. There was a pause after the 2()1h meeting in 1983 which was dedicated to P. A. M. Dirac. The conferences were resumed in 1993. Some of the reminiscences involved the absence of great minds who attended these meetings in the past and who were no longer with us. The list includes, just to name a few: Julian Schwinger, Robert Oppenheimer, Lars Onsager, Robert Hofstater, Abdus Salam, Richard Feynman, Stanislov Ulam, P. A. M. Dirac, Lord C. P. Snow, Eugene P. Wigner, Vladimir K. Zworykin, and Dixie Lee Ray. Most of these people were among the architects of modern physics and had participated in many of the early Coral Gables Conferences. We miss them. These conferences have contributed to the progress in high energy physics and cosmology. This year, again, papers were presented on familiar topics, such as neutrino masses, age and total mass of the universe, on the nature of dark matter, and on supersymmetry. The latter has now become a perennial issue. Like the weather, we all talk about it, but, so far cannot do anything to affect it. Another favorite subject was so-called monopoles, which theoretically participate in phenomena like condensation, confinement of electric charge, confinement of monopoles themselves, etc.

They are now tourist attractions as well as the focus for a growing number of "fortress" enthusiasts. 'How Did It Come to This?' is set against the backdrop of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict and describes the lives of two young soldiers, Yuri, a Russian conscript and Milo, a Ukrainian soldier. When Yuri almost freezes to death in a trench during an artillery barrage, Milo finds him and kindly revives him. Gradually the two become comrades and Milo helps Yuri escape back to the Ural Mountains to his pregnant wife, Elena.

Milo helps a trapped nurse in a bombed out hospital in Kyiv, Svetlana and falls in love with her during a rare break from duty and the pair must decide whether to leave and seek refuge away from Ukraine or stay there and do their duty. Yuri and Elena attempt to leave Russia by road and seek refuge in Finland.
The story culminates as the two couples meet up in Helsinki to wait out the war. As the war is still progressing as we speak it is very topical and thought inspiring.
