This book describes the development and use of supercomputers in the period 1960-1996, a time that can be called the Seymour Cray Era. For more than three decades, Cray's computer designs were seen as the yardstick against which all other efforts were measured. Initially, this yardstick was sheer computing speed. However, the supercomputer world gradually became more complex and other factors became equally important.
The initial development of supercomputers was commissioned and financed by the Los Alamos and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratories, which had huge computational needs in connection with nuclear weapons development. The computers designed by Cray satisfied those needs, while these computers were also sold to a few dozen other big research organizations and weather agencies. From the 1980s, a variety of companies started to compete with the Cray designs by offering supercomputers that used a new architectural approach, MPP: massively parallel processing. This new architecture, based on using tens of thousands of relatively simple microprocessors, subsequently began to dominate high-performance computing and marked the end of the Seymour Cray Era.
This book is important reading for anyone working in the area of high-performance computing, providing essential historical context for the work of a legendary pioneer and the computers he became famous for designing. It will also be valuable to students of computing history and, more generally, to readers interested in the history of science and technology. Despite the ubiquitous use of Greek by the Christian church of the late antique Southern Levant, many Christians in the region also-or only-spoke Aramaic. Today, this dialect: Christian Palestinian Aramaic (CPA), is relatively sparsely attested in the form of regional inscriptions and, particularly, in the form of vernacular translations of Greek biblical, liturgical and theological texts. These translations survive predominantly as undertexts within palimpsest manuscripts.

Codex Climaci Rescriptus (CCR) is one of the most important palimpsest manuscript sources for the recovery of CPA texts. CCR was created around the tenth century; its superior text consists of Syriac translations of two theological works by John Climacus. This tenth century manuscript was manufactured using recycled parchment from at least eleven older, obsolete manuscripts whose texts had been scraped off in preparation for reuse. Two of these eleven manuscripts form the focus of the present study. The first-CCR II-was originally a manuscript of the Pauline Epistles in CPA translation; the second-CCR XI-was originally an Apostolos manuscript (i.e., it contained the Acts of the Apostles and the Catholic Epistles).

Christian Behrendt untersucht in seiner Arbeit das Verhältnis von rechtsgeschäftlichen Verfügungen zu Zwangsverfügungen. Die in einigen Gesetzesbestimmungen enthaltene Gleichstellung dieser Verfügungen ist Ausdruck eines allgemeinen Grundsatzes: Zwangsverfügungen und rechtsgeschäftliche Verfügungen sind gleich. Sie unterscheiden sich allein dadurch, daß bei Zwangsverfügungen der Tatbestand der Einigung der Parteien durch zwangsweise Vornahme gegen den Schuldner ersetzt wird; im übrigen sind Voraussetzungen und Wirkungen grundsätzlich gleich. Der Grundsatz des Gleichlaufs ist aus zwei Gründen erforderlich:1. Weder durch Vertrag noch durch Einschaltung des staatlichen Machtapparates kann in die Rechte Dritter eingegriffen werden (Arikel 103 GG).2. Könnte der Schuldner in einem weitergehenden Umfang rechtsgeschäftlich über sein Vermögen verfügen als Zwangsverfügungen möglich sind, könnte er durch rechtsgeschäftliche Verfügungen den Zugriff des Gläubigers vereiteln. In der Regel gelangen Rechtsprechung und herrschende Lehre bei Einzelproblemen zu den Ergebnissen, die sich aus der Anwendung des Grundsatzes vom Gleichlauf ergeben.

Anschließend untersucht der Autor, welches der verfassungsrechtlich relevante Maßstab für die Kompetenzverteilung ist, und sucht dazu das Verhältnis von Gewaltenteilungs- und Demokratieprinzip neu zu bestimmen. Abschließend werden die dabei gewonnenen verfassungsrechtlichen Grundsätze auf die zuvor analysierten völkerrechtlichen Phänomene übertragen.

Denn Vorurteile bilden die Vernunft des Volkes, ist Friedrich überzeugt, und Luise Dorothea teilt durchaus seine Bedenken, ob es denn dieses dumme Volk verdiene, aufgeklärt zu werden.
