Solving the Giving Pledge Bottleneck How to Finance Solutions Using Philanthropic ...

Solving the Giving Pledge Bottleneck: How to Finance Solutions Using Philanthropic Private Equity by Sean Davis
English | PDF EPUB (True) | 2024 | 151 Pages | ISBN : 303165045X | 24.6 MB
This book highlights the historic inflection point we are in, both in terms of philanthropy in general, and specifically in financing the solutions to our largest and most urgent social and environmental problems. It covers the two movements that have recently had a dramatic influence on capitalism. First, wealthy millennials have been pressuring their bankers to invest their family portfolios in companies with high social and environmental impact (ESG ratings), triggering a wave where the wealth management industry, and now all public companies, are significantly adapting to the increasing demand for good. Second, The Giving Pledge triggered another wave, changing what success and the accumulation of wealth means. It has even begun to redefine the goal of capitalism as more than 230 billionaires have pledged to give half or more of their wealth away.

This book also focuses on the bottleneck problem that The Giving Pledge has created, as it is very hard to give hundreds of billions away with measurable impact to nonprofits lacking detailed long-term plans to scale. Nonprofits have never had the luxury of having all the resources to invest in the planning, management training and systems needed to rapidly expand. Thus taking in very large gifts is very difficult, and almost impossible to justify. Large philanthropy can always be used for traditional capital campaigns and to fund endowments, yet The Giving Pledge signers are often looking for large visible impact beyond these traditional avenues. The result is a bottleneck which has grown as more billionaires pledge their funds away while their wealth continues to skyrocket and giving rates stay very small.
Finally, this book covers the emergence of large giving vehicles, modelled after the private equity industry. They have sophisticated third-party managers focused on deploying funds and supporting management teams. It also covers the scaling of nonprofits in a significant way ("Big Bets") as well as investing large philanthropy through for-profits as Philanthropic Private Equity. This book is of interest specifically to nonprofit and foundation leaders, as well as wealth managers, estate attorneys and other philanthropic advisors. It is also of interest to investors and corporate CEOs as they begin to access these large pools for philanthropic capital to increase their impact. This book is focused on providing those with the ability to make large philanthropic investments a path to scale their impact and increase their fulfillment and that of their family. It provides a step-by-step guide of how these approaches, especially Philanthropic Private Equity, can actually solve the social and environmental challenges that have been seemingly hopeless. The second edition also presents a plan to use these concepts to create a path to solve the housing crisis in America.

Sovereign Rights and Territorial Space in Sino-Japanese Relations Irredentism and ...

Unryu Suganuma, "Sovereign Rights and Territorial Space in Sino-Japanese Relations: Irredentism and the Diaoyu/Senkaku Islands"
English | 1999 | ISBN: 0824821599, 0824824938 | PDF | pages: 306 | 93.2 mb
Sovereign Rights and Territorial Space in Sino-Japanese Relations is an investigation of the highly topical issues involved in the Diaoyu/Senkaku confrontation. It begins by addressing the issue of the historical development of the dispute: To whom do the islands belong? When did China and Japan become involved? Does historical evidence prove who has sovereignty over the islands? How has irredentism (the claim to territory based on one or another historical right) become a major state policy in both countries? Other issues center on Chinese views of sovereignty and methods of delimiting territorial boundaries during the Ming and Qing periods, the Chinese concept of hegemony, and the history behind the deep mistrust that permeates Sino-Japanese relations. Finally, the author discloses the interwoven relationship between geography and history in East Asia.

Soziale Probleme und soziale Kontrolle

Soziale Probleme und soziale Kontrolle By Helge Peters (auth.)
2002 | 217 Pages | ISBN: 3531136682 | PDF | 5 MB

Soziologie und Gesellschaftsentwicklung: Aufsätze 1966-1996 By Prof. Dr. Bernhard Schäfers (auth.)
1996 | 438 Pages | ISBN: 3663114414 | PDF | 16 MB
Weiterhin danke ich Frau Simone Farys, M. A., Frau Nicole Hägele, M. A. und Herrn Morio Taneda.

Soziologie und Natur Theoretische Perspektiven

Soziologie und Natur: Theoretische Perspektiven By Karl-Werner Brand (auth.), Karl-Werner Brand (eds.)
1998 | 290 Pages | ISBN: 3810021555 | PDF | 6 MB
Speed of Sound and Critical Flow

Speed of Sound and Critical Flow by Henry Foust
English | PDF EPUB (True) | 2024 | 163 Pages | ISBN : 981975917X | 24.9 MB
This book focuses on two related topics in fluid mechanics, that is, speed of sound through various media and critical flow associated with gas-liquid flows. The first part of the book explores the speed of sound in liquids, gases, and solids. For gas flows, both real gas behavior and two-phase flow are reviewed; a thorough review is given of cubic equations of state. For media of solid, transverse and longitudinal waves are discussed and related back to earlier work on acoustics and gas dynamics. The second part of the book focuses on critical flow. Beginning with ideal, perfect gases, it goes into van der Waals and other equations of state. A general discussion of gas-liquid flows is subsequently given with necessary nomenclature consistent with the work of Wallis, and lastly goes on to explore critical flow for two-phase and binary mixtures through Henry and Fauske's work and the Omega method by Leung.

Spycraft Tricks and Tools of the Dangerous Trade from Elizabeth I to the Restoration

Nadine Akkerman, "Spycraft: Tricks and Tools of the Dangerous Trade from Elizabeth I to the Restoration"
English | ISBN: 0300267541 | 2024 | 368 pages | EPUB | 16 MB
A fascinating exploration of the devious tricks and ingenious tools used by early modern spies-from ciphers to counterfeiting, invisible inks to assassination

Early modern Europe was a hotbed of espionage, where spies, spy-catchers, and conspirators pitted their wits against each other in deadly games of hide and seek. Theirs was a dangerous trade-only those who mastered the latest techniques would survive.
In this engaging, accessible account, Nadine Akkerman and Pete Langman explore the methods spies actually used in the period, including disguises, invisible inks, and even poisons. Drawing on a vast array of archival sources, they show how understanding the tricks and tools of espionage allows us to re-imagine well-known stories such as the Babington and Gunpowder Descriptions. Exposing the murky world of spies, they demonstrate how the technological innovations of petty criminals, secretaries, and other hitherto invisible actors shaped the fate of some of history's most iconic figures.

Squanto A Native Odyssey

Squanto: A Native Odyssey by Andrew Lipman
English | September 17th, 2024 | ISBN: 0300238770 | 264 pages | True EPUB | 7.73 MB
Taken to Europe as a slave, he found his way home and changed the course of American history

American schoolchildren have long learned about Squanto, the welcoming Native who made the First Thanksgiving possible, but his story goes deeper than the holiday legend. Born in the Wampanoag-speaking town of Patuxet in the late 1500s, Squanto was kidnapped in 1614 by an English captain, who took him to Spain. From there, Englishmen brought him to London and Newfoundland before sending him home in 1619, when Squanto discovered that most of Patuxet had died in an epidemic. A year later, the Mayflower colonists arrived at his home and renamed it Plymouth.
Prize-winning historian Andrew Lipman explores the mysteries that still surround Squanto: How did he escape bondage and return home? Why did he help the English after an Englishman enslaved him? Why did he threaten Plymouth's fragile peace with its neighbors? Was it true that he converted to Christianity on his deathbed? Drawing from a wide range of evidence and newly uncovered sources, Lipman reconstructs Squanto's upbringing, his transatlantic odyssey, his career as an interpreter, his surprising downfall, and his enigmatic death. The result is a fresh look at an epic life that ended right when many Americans think their story begins.

Standorte, Nachfrageexternalitäten und Preisankündigungen

Standorte, Nachfrageexternalitäten und Preisankündigungen By Dr. Joachim Henkel (auth.)
1997 | 215 Pages | ISBN: 3790810290 | PDF | 8 MB

Take a deep dive into a turbulent era of the Star Wars galaxy and chart the rise of the Rebellion from the prequel trilogy through Obi-Wan, Andor, and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story to the original trilogy.

For many years, the state of the galaxy between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope was a mystery to Star Wars fans. With the release of Star Wars: Rebels and Rogue One, and more recently, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Andor, an exciting new era has begun to emerge - the Dawn of Rebellion.
