Welcome to an exciting new era of "visual" audio manipulation. R-MIX software - powered by Roland's newly developed V-Remastering technology in conjunction with VariPhrase - lets you see the components of a stereo mix as color-coded clouds of energy and harmonic matter as the song plays! Select your desired components of the mix, and freely edit them - an impossible task in the past. You can change panning positions and levels to individual instruments within a stereo mix, for example, and add effects to each element as desired. You can even independently adjust the pitch and speed of the playback, realized with VariPhrase.

How does this power translate to you? You can use R-MIX to easily create "minus-one" type karaoke files from existing songs by lowering the level of a pre-recorded vocal or any other instrument you select within each mix. As with any audio processing software, results with R-MIX are dependent on the source quality. R-MIX provides high-quality, natural-sounding results with few undesirable artifacts, glitches, or over-modulated sounds. Effects and Noise Cancel
Add effects only to any specific part of a mix, such as vocals, and clean up your mixes with the built-in Noise Cancel, which eliminates undesirable hiss and hum noises. Delay and reverb effects are also onboard, letting you add depth and expression to each element (or all) of your mix.

Create Your Own Mixes
You can easily make "minus-one" type karaoke files from existing songs by lowering the level of the pre-recorded vocal or any other instrument you select. Using the same technique in reverse, you can solo an individual part and analyze it for study; slow down a fast guitar solo, for example, and learn how to play it. Solid Angle has released version 2.1.945 of Arnold for 3ds Max (or MAXtoA). This is a feature release, using the Arnold 5.2.0.0 core, and is MAXtoA build 945.

Enhancements:
- Texture Baking: the native render to texture workflow is now supported. The RTT UI has been extended to expose most of the Arnold AOVs as baking elements. Also, the following native Max baking elements can be rendered: CompleteMap, DiffuseMap, SpecularMap, ShadowsMap, LightingMap, AlphaMap, Ambient Occlusion (MR).
- Sheen in standard_surface: the standard surface shader supports a new, energy-preserving sheen effect designed to render cloth-like microfiber materials such as velvet.
- New cell_noise shader: A new cell_noise has been added which can create many different useful cell-like patterns. The color of each cell is mapped to a palette parameter, enabling the easy creation of patterns with colors chosen from a specific palette.
- New controls in range_shader: The range shader has been augmented with parameters to control contrast, bias and gain.
- RGB clamping in clamp shader: The clamp shader can now be configured to either a scalar or color mode.
- Matrix shaders: two new matrix shaders, matrix_multiply_vector and matrix_transform have been added.
- Built-in Cryptomatte: the Cryptomatte AOV shader is now included.
- New control in toon shader: edge detection can now be controlled using a string type user data called toon_id, that can be applied to the objects through the Arnold Properties modifier. Otherwise, the detected edges based on ID will be driven by the object's own name.
- Removed texture blur options: the texture blur parameters have been removed from the Arnold rendering options.
- Improved sampling of spherical lights: a new technique for sampling point lights has been added which can show significant reductions in noise, especially for large lights illuminating surfaces at grazing angles.
- Improved EXR read performance: threaded read performance and scaling of OpenEXR files has been greatly improved.
- noice denoiser improvements: the stability and usability of the high-quality noice denoiser has been improved thanks to various bugfixes and improved error checking.
- OptiX denoiser improvements: the GPU memory consumption of the fast OptiX denoiser has been greatly reduced proportionally to the number of denoised AOVs. Fringing artifacts around HDR pixels have been reduced.
Fixes:
- Hash osl noise type now working.
- Default ramp type for the Arnold ram shaders is now U instead of Custom.
- Removed warnings about already declared user data in Active Shade.
- The pre-pass rendering flag, if enabled, is now ignored in batch rendering mode.

RegiStar is a one-of-a-kind program that fully automates the task of aligning digital astronomical images. RegiStar shifts, rotates, flips, and deforms as needed to precisely align images, even if they are at different scales or orientations or have been produced with different optical systems. RegiStar works on digital or film images, automatically rejecting noise including hot pixels. RegiStar can register all images in a directory with a single command, and has other powerful batch-processing capabilities.

RegiStar is an image alignment, or registration, program that was designed to work specifically with astronomical images. RegiStar finds the stars in an image, and uses their positions to align this image to another image or group of images. RegiStar uses a sophisticated matching algorithm that allows images at different scales and orientations to be registered. RegiStar automatically corrects for geometric distortions including reflections, so it works on images taken with different optical systems. Also, it works on image pairs that have only a small overlap. RegiStar accurately registers most images that have at least a 1% overlap and at least 10 stars in common, even if they contain a large amount of noise such as hot pixels.

RegiStar requires no user input to complete a registration, other than the specification of the images. The matching and alignment are performed automatically without the input of any matching points or parameters.

RegiStar includes the capability of processing several images at once, in a batch. An entire directory of images can be registered using a single command, and several other commands can also handle multiple images.

RegiStar also includes some tools to assemble and manipulate images after they have been registered. These tools were designed specifically to automate tasks commonly done by digital astrophotographers, such as forming mosaics, forming tricolor images, and stacking exposures.

TIFF, JPEG, and FITS images are supported. RegiStar supports 8- and 16-bit depth internally, but will read higher depth FITS images.

RegiStar is not an image-editing program. It is designed to register and assemble images, and, except for the ability to calibrate one image to another, does not have any commands for adjusting brightness or contrast, removing flaws, or otherwise editing images. It is assumed that RegiStar will be used in conjunction with another program that has these capabilities. RegiStar is designed so that other programs can easily be used together with it.

What's new:
Multithreading. The Register, Locate Stars, Combine, and Calibrate commands are now parallelized.
Improved noise handling and registration accuracy. Noise, including fixed hot pixels, is now better detected and rejected, fully automatically.
Geometric inversion. Registrations that require a geometric flip are now performed.
Larger distortion. Images with even higher relative geometric distortion are now registered to each other.
Improved and faster star location. In addition to multithreading, the Locate Stars command has been modified for improved speed and star detection, especially in raw linear images and noisy images.
Display scaling. The default percentile values have been changed to 99.9 and 0.01, which gives better screen rendition especially on raw linear images with high bit depth. A new Preferences option is provided to automatically display-scale images with bit depth greater than 8.
Larger zoom range: The range for zooming out has been increased so that very large images can be viewed in their entirety.

VariCAD is a powerful, professional CAD application that provides a wide range of features designed to help you create 3D or 2D drawings useful in the field of mechanical engineering. The comprehensive CAD software enables designers to quickly create, evaluate, and modify their models. VariCAD delivers an excellent performance-to-price ratio, making it one of the smartest choices on the market today.

User Interface and System Environment VariCAD's Graphical User Interface (GUI) has been designed to allow quick and intuitive 3D/2D orientation. It has been carefully tailored and tuned to reflect the thought process of a designer, so that ideas can be captured and communicated with a minimal number of steps. All commands were created with a focus on ease of use.

You can start by creating a 3D model and then use it to automatically create drawings files, or you can draw only in 2D. Designing in 3D is generally more "natural," in that it closely represents actual parts and assemblies. The 3D approach is usually more intuitive than 2D drafting. Models created in 3D are easily converted into conventional 2D documentation. VariCAD provides tools for 2D updates after changes of 3D models.

3D Modeling
VariCAD provides a library of basic 3D shapes (like a box, cylinder, cone, etc.), which are easily modified by editing their dimensions. Solids can be created also by profile rotation, extrusion, or lofting. More complex tools include rotation blending between two profiles, lofting between a circle and rectangle or between different profiles, and creation of helical surfaces.

Solids can be added or subtracted, thus forming Boolean trees representing real mechanical parts. Boolean operations have options of automatic trimming (so called selective Boolean operations). Predefined operations like drilling of holes, face milling or groove milling are also available. Edges can be rounded or chamfered. VariCAD provides a lot of possibilities of solid transformations or their editing. Also, you can easily edit Boolean trees - either selecting solid parts from 3D, or selecting them from a list displaying structure.

Parameters and Geometrical Constraints
Although you can comfortably transform solids or their parts, you can optionally define geometrical constraints. Once defined, constraints allow you "to stick" object at defined location. More exactly, you can remove degrees of freedom of constrained objects. If other objects are changed or transformed, constrained object changes its position automatically. For instance, if you constrain a groove to the end of a shaft and the shaft length is changed, the groove remains in constant distance from the end edge. Constraints can be defined among elements of a solid, among entire solids or within a 2D profile creating a solid (for instance, by extrusion).

Whenever you enter a dimension of solid, a distance in constraint or dimension in 2D profile used for solid creation, you can optionally use parameter or even a mathematical expression containing parameters. Changing parameter values, you can change shapes or locations of solids.

3D Assemblies and Groups
VariCAD also provides tools for assembly support. If the link between a part and assembly is defined, any changes made to the part file are reflected in the assembly file and vice-versa. Linked copies of solids can also be defined (so called identical solids). In such case, editing of one object causes update of all its identical copies. Solid groups can be defined as well, making selection and visibility changes simple, for multiple objects.

Calculations
VariCAD can calculate 2D section area, surface area, volume, mass, center of gravity, and moment of inertia. Mechanical parts calculations are also included - for standard parts used every day by mechanical designers. There are calculations of tension and compression springs, pre-stressed bolted connections, pins and parallel keys, grooved shafts, bearings, beams under combined stress (bending and torsion), spur and bevel gearing geometry, and belt drives.
Surface Development (Sheet Metal Unbending)

VariCAD can also create developed (unbent) surfaces of 3D solids or sheet metal parts. The XY coordinates of developed surfaces can be saved into a text file for further processing. You can input bending coefficients in order to customize your calculations, to reflect material and technology.
Mechanical Part and Symbol Libraries VariCAD contains libraries of standard mechanical parts (ANSI, DIN), such as bolts, nuts, pins, plugs, cotters, gaskets, bearings, rolled and drawn shapes, and hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical symbols.

3D - 2D Export
3D models are easily converted into 2D drawings to produce conventional drafting documentation. You can create 2D views of one or more selected solids by defining the views in 3D. In addition, you can also export specified sections. VariCAD supports updates of a 2D drawing after changes in 3D.

2D Drawing and Editing
Drawing functions are optimized for easy use in engineering. Some handy features of 2D drawing include: automatic detection of objects and snap points, numerous snap modes, auxiliary construction lines, Ortho mode, rectangular grid, drawing layers, block creation, hatching with automatic border detection, advanced dimensioning, finish symbols, welding symbols, tolerance symbols, and many more. You can draw in millimeters or in inches.

BOM and Title Blocks
VariCAD provides tools for maintaining the data structure of the product. There are links between attributes of parts and content of title blocks. You can create a bill of material (BOM) from an assembly, or easily modify the database using commands like mass attribute changes, sorting of information, etc. Each part can contain attributes, like name, type of material or supplier. Such data can be used for material requisitions, creation of bills of materials (BOM), filling of title blocks, or other purposes.

The data structure of the product (BOM) can be exported into other systems or into a spreadsheet. A mask is used for BOM customization; you can modify it exactly according to your needs. Mask defines usage of solid or assembly attributes, working with title blocks, methods of data exports from BOM etc.

Compatibility
VariCAD can interchange files with other CAD systems. You can export STEP (3D), STL (3D), IGES (3D), DWG (2D), DXF (2D) files, and import STEP (3D), DWG (2D), DXF (2D). The files can be converted individually or in batch routines, thereby converting multiple files in one step.

VariCAD 2018
This version supports 3D mouse under Linux. VariCAD commands are available from 3D mouse keys. Next new features are isometric views in 3D mode and 2D objects created from data loaded from *.csv files or, generally, text files (files containing XY coordinates). User interface contains virtual numerical pad available for values input, and rebuilt dialog panels used for definition of basic solids (like box, cylinder.). The new version has improved parts of 3D kernel, including input/output of STEP files.

Solid Angle has released version 2.4.0 of Arnold for Cinema4D (C4DtoA). This plug-ins provides a bridge to the Arnold renderer from within the standard Cinema 4D interface. C4DtoA is now shipping with the latest Arnold 5.2.0.0 core.

2.4.0 - Release Date August 10, 2018:

FEATURES
- Texture baking: a new dialog is added that will produce an image of a given polymesh's shaded UV space as output.
- Sheen in standard surface: the standard surface shader supports a new, energy-preserving sheen effect designed to render cloth-like microfiber materials such as velvet. The sheen effect is layered on top of the diffuse and subsurface components.
- New cell noise shader: a new cell noise shader has been added which can create many different useful cell-like patterns. The color of each cell is mapped to a palette parameter, enabling the easy creation of patterns with colors chosen from a specific palette.
- Export / import operator graphs: operator graphs now can be exported to an ASS file and import back in any DCCs supported.
- Built-in cryptomatte: the Cryptomatte ID matte creation tool is now being included as a part of the Arnold core package.
- Matrix shaders: The matrix_multiply_vector and matrix_transform shaders have been reinstated.
ENHANCEMENTS
- New control in toon shader: edge detection can now be controlled using a STRING type user data called Toon ID, available in the Arnold Tag of shapes. This feature is enabled when the Use Toon ID parameter of the toon shader is checked. Otherwise, the detected edges will be driven by the object's own name as a toon-specific ID.
- New controls in range shader: the range shader has been augmented with parameters to control contrast, bias and gain.
- RGB clamping in clamp shader: the clamp shader can now be configured to either a scalar or color mode.
- Improve alpha options of the Arnold Material: alpha channel of a texture is now supported to control blending when stacking materials.
- Support for the native decal workflow: adding textures over a material via the texture tag is now fully supported.
- Run ASS export while a render is running in the background
- Change Export scale parameter to length unit type
- Support for blend opacity in the object mask tag
- Reload the procedural when it's disabled and re-enabled
- Add -arnoldAbortOnLicenseFail command line argument
FIXES
- ASS export from command line does match ass export from gui
- Exported xpEmitters don't match original if you have a short particle lifespan
- Multiple folders in the procedural search path do not work on OSX
- Arnold tag shows wrong parameters on a Lathe object under a Cloner
NOTES
- The Cryptomatte AOVs can be assigned only to an EXR driver, therefore Cryptomatte has no preview in the Picture Viewer and IPR.
API
- There are modifications in the C4DtoA API which require third-parties to recompile their C4DtoA extensions.
