StoryLines Planning Tool
StoryLines is a multi-storyline planning tool that helps you weave a set of virtual index cards into a finished, formatted story.

Drag and drop cards
Arrange your ideas graphically in cards, along as many storylines as you wish. A simple story might have one storyline, and a complex one (such as a TV soap opera) may have half a dozen - with StoryLines you can see them all at once, or just show the one you're interested in.

Formatting
StoryLines allows paragraph and text formatting in story content and annotations. You can add custom paragraph styles to the built-in styles.

Screenplay auto-formatting
If you're typing a play or screenplay, StoryLines speeds up formatting by choosing an appropriate paragraph style where possible.

Text and screenplay import
Import existing plain text or formatted screenplays, exported by applications such as Final Draft. Import presets can be defined with detailed options for importing.

Instant reports
As soon as you have made an edit, a linear version will be updated in the Report window; you can choose from a selection of report templates, each with its own preview to help you see how it will format your project.

New report templates can be created, and you can customize many aspects of how reports will be shown and exported, in terms of the information shown and also its appearance. Paragraph styles are preserved when exporting to OpenDocument, so you can continue to use the same styles in (for example) OpenOffice Writer.

Outline view
You can see an outline tree view to the left of your tracks window, for quick navigation.

Navigator view
The navigator view gives a bird's eye view of all the cards in your project so you can go to cards and columns without scrolling.

Tag-based searching
You can assign on or more tag to a StoryLines card, and then show all matching cards. You can even define virtual tags, to automate complex searches through content by specifying just one search tag.

Tags can have icons associated with them, and these icons will show on tagged cards. So you can quickly see which cards you have marked for further development, for example.

Multiple sheets
Create multiple sheets in the same project, for example for different versions of the same story.

User-customisable structure
A story can have multiple levels (for example Part/Chapter/Scene). These can be specified when creating a project, or later.

File export
Export your project in report form to your favourite word processor or screenwriting software, in OpenDocument, plain text or HTML format. OpenDocument files can be read by many applications including OpenOffice, and Microsoft Word can read them if you install a suitable plugin.

Make HTML Help books
Export your project to Windows HTML Help format (on Windows) or cross-platform HelpView HTML Help (all platforms). You can then mail your story to friends and colleagues as an e-book.

Character profiles
Add details about each of your characters with the Character Profiles tool. You can add and hide fields in the characters schema, or even create your own schemas and tables to record custom data for your story.

Story locations
Describe each of your locations with the Story Locations tool.

Copy and paste
Copy or cut a card or several cards, and paste to the appropriate place in your project.

Spelling checker
Check for typos with the built-in spellchecker, available in a number of languages.

Pockets
Store cards that don't yet have a home in a Pocket, for placing on a storyline later.

Undo/Redo
Undo/redo your major edits, all the way back to where you last saved the project

Highly customizable
Tailor the way your project looks by changing fonts, colours and even use bitmap tiles for the tracks window and cards; hide windows that you don't need

Keyboard shortcuts for high-speed editing
Use keyboard shortcuts to make editing your projects fast and natural.

For those who made some 3D creations using various specialized software solutions and need to work on them without having to install each program again, a utility like Metasequoia can be the right choice. This application manages to provide a strong set of features and make them available from a really friendly interface.

There are several modes to operate Metasequoia, namely Beginner, Modeling (string), Modeling (icon) and Mapping.

Each of these styles comes with its commands for editing the loaded model, setting the appropriate lighting and more. There is a wide variety of objects that you can select and insert in the design, as well as some tools that are meant for modifying the model you are working on.

The editing function that Metasequoia is equipped with are rather basic, but, nonetheless, cover all the necessary actions for handling objects, material faces and vertices. Each selected portion of the design can be fixed, stored or restored when needed, as well as fit to view or set as center of rotation.

There are many customizations that can be made to the application from the 'Configuration' area, so you can assign, for instance, various actions to mouse buttons and key combinations. Texture rendering imperfections and some glitches that may occur can be avoided by adjusting the Direct3D and OpenGL preview options.

All things considered, Metasequoia seems to be a worthy alternative to more complex utilities of its kind, especially thanks to the ease of use coupled with a good support for a variety of formats this software is able to work with.

Powerful modeling functions
Metasequoia has basic polygon editing functions. And it also has functions to assist in the finer processing.

The following features have been added and improved, in ver.4.0 or later.
Fill up a hole - It automatically fill in the holes on the surface.Bridge - It creates a pipe-shaped polygon in between holes.Bevel - creating a fillet surface (a rounded corner) is added...etc.
N-gon (5 or more points in a face)
You can make a polygon with 5 or more points. And you can easily add edges (divide a face) or erase edges (merge faces).

Armature
By [Armature], you can create an object shape along the center line. You can create an object by specifying only the center line and the line width. This feature will reduce the time to create the object. And you can edit the generated object in more detail by modeling capabilities.

Bone and Morph
Setting the one, the object can be linked to the deformation of bones. And [Morph] is a function to slide the vertex. You can create such as facial expressions. Bone and Morph settings can be exported to the corresponding file format, FBX or PMD.

Measure (Metasequoia 4 EX only)
You can measure the size of the object. This function is for business use or 3D printer output.

View Unit
You can display units such as millimeters or inches on the screen. And, it is possible to make the input of numerical value with the unit.

Measure a length, an angle and a thickness
You can measure the distance, angle, thickness of any position. Changes in the numerical values associated with the movement or deformation of the object are displayed immediately.

UV Edit
V edit function is greatly improved. New features; automatic unwrapping, and splitting or stitching, etc. are added. UV editing is more efficient.

OpenSubdiv
OpenSubdiv; a Pixar's subdivision surface; is now supported. By setting the weights to the vertex or line, the edges of the object are generated. And, you get the texture whose distortion of UV is less. If you export OpenSubdiv object to FBX file, you can transfer the shape data between compatible software.

Ambient occlusion (Metasequoia 4 EX only)
Ambient occlusion makes dark in the secluded part, and bright in the opening part. This results are exported to the vertex colors, and you can check the objects from any direction.

Supporting RenderMan
You can get high-quality rendering image by RenderMan with Metasequoia 4.

Import / Export
Metasequoia supports several file formats of third-party 3DCG software. You can pass files to each other with most of 3DCG software.

When you import or export, Metasequoia will support the conversion of the coordinate axes, and reversing the surface direction, and specifying the magnification factor. It will resolve the differences of each software.

Description

Focusing on fast vector techniques in Photoshop you will create a unique looking style for a 2d platform running game. Skills you must have already:

Basic drawing ability
Basic experience with Photoshop
Basic understanding of Unity

The vector techniques covered are simple and effective to give maximum impact in a short amount of time. Using Photoshop smart objects is a key concept of the course a technique commonly used by professional game artists.

Split into two sections first you get familiar with the vector tools and thumbnail process. Then we jump into a mini project called the Golden Antelope inspired by Indonesian folklore. You'll see the whole process take shape from thumbnails to finished image.

*Assignments are included during the course to aid you learning. Feedback is available directly from the instructor who has a track record that spans over twenty commercial game releases.

As this course is aimed at those with a basic understanding of Photoshop it moves fast giving you the key concepts so that you can apply the techniques to your own game productions.

Part 1: Nick Sweetman

Guiding you through the basic vector tools and thumbnail process I get you up to speed before you start going through the mini game project. We cover tips and tricks to speed up workflow and look at the main vector techniques with the pen tool.

Part 2: Graphics: Maureen Lukito - Narration: Nick Sweetman

Rovio game artist Maureen Lukito shows the workflow she uses to create a professional 2d game background. We go from scheduling to blocking out the assets and implementing them into the game engine Unity. The template scene gives you the essential elements you need to test your environment: A jumping character, animated parallax layers with basic functionality for you to move through the level. The template is coded by game programmer Yrjö Peussa and is specifically designed for testing and is not a complete game, if you know coding feel free to build on top!

Description

This course combines 2D traditional and digital skills which are the foundation for a game graphics artists whether you are pursuing a 2D or 3D career. It will also show you how to avoid beginners mistakes when creating 2d game graphics. We start with the principles of light, shadow and perspective and then move on to digital graphics inside of Photoshop. The course is broken down into 4 weeks/stages. Each week there is a homework assignment which is designed to develop your skill and imagination. What makes the game course unique is that it combines traditional and digital skills together into the same course.

*Update 25.2.18 we have now added a brand new Figure construction module a collaboration with Game Art Co & The Drawery Workshop. You will learn an effective & simplified method for proportion, structure and constructing the figure in 3d space designed for the complete beginner!
