Chipcrusher is an advanced bitcrusher, a speaker simulator and a noise machine. It has taken us a lot of effort, but we are finally proud to announce the release of our long awaited effect plugin. We hope you'll like it.

There is a wide spectrum of results achievable with chipcrusher. For example
Uniquely destroy/mangle a beat, a guitar or any other audio track.
Play single hits and emulate the sound of old samplers.
Add 'accurate dirt' to chipsounds's output.
etc.
The three main components in chipcrusher are: DAC Encoding, Background Noise and Post-Processing. The audio inputs first go through a simulation of early lofi digital audio codecs (DAC Encoding). Then it get mixed with the Background Noise to add some grit. And finally, the sound get sent through a selection of speaker and filter impulse responses that we call the Post-Processing stage. Of course, each component can be bypassed on demand without muting the audio.

WHY ALL THIS HYPE ABOUT 8-BIT SOUNDS?
Sound chips from vintage computers, arcades and game consoles had unique sonic signatures that have been shadowed by recent and "better" technologies.
Their limitations in polyphony and timbre have forced musicians of the time to come up with a series of techniques which pushed the boundaries of what they originally offered.
Those special techniques, combined with each type of chip's "imperfections" gave true personality to the music and sound effects of the 80's.
Here is a few example techniques used by classic chip music authors that has been precisely reproduced in chipsounds
Fast one-shot arpeggios with pulse width modulation and amplitude modulation.
Rapid waveform changes (also known as wavetables) for "drum-like" sounds and guitar-like leads.
Resynchronizing of envelopes and waveforms, through interrupt-based timers in order to create new evolving waveforms and odd ring modulations.
Fast sweeping glides of discreet pitch values.
Creation of a 'poor man's' 4bit sampler using rapidly changing volume function of the chips.
Chip music artists were the first to give those sounds all the fame they deserved. But today, musicians of all genres praise the unique musical behaviors of these chips.

Chipspeech is a vintage-style speech synthesizer which recreates the sound of famous 80′s voice synthesis chips. It features 12 different voices, each with its own characteristic timbre. It is specially tailored for musical needs - simply type in your lyrics, and then play on your MIDI keyboard. It's a true synthesizer, the sound can be extensively modified for easy and expressive performances. chipspeech also features a circuit bending emulation, letting you not only recreate the insane and chaotic sound of a circuit bent TI speaking device, but also use it in a controlled, musical way.

Long lasting rumors explaining his powerful charisma would entail secret nano tech that invades everyone (and everything) around him.
ROTTEN.ST
Rotten.ST has been in and out of British prisons since starting the cyberpunk movement in the early '80s. Although nobody really knows exactly what he was arrested for, we can only imagine it was for good reasons. Rotten.ST has a pathological relationship with any form of authority, justice, law or order. You can be sure you will find him there loudly decrying the system, clamoring against police brutality, trying to start a riot (often succeeding). He is always be the first one in the paddy wagon. When things get rough, his signature blunt weapon is a large microphone stand, which he will gladly swing towards anyone in uniform. His intentionally buzzy and electronic voice and his looks -which consists in showing off as much electronic parts as possible- are all about subverting social norms.

16-bit four operator FM synthesizer. This member of the chipsynth line is a feature-rich four operator FM synth that packs quite a punch!
The Mega Drive™ - also known as Genesis™ - is a much beloved console system that brought the bright and sparkly sound of FM to the masses. It resulted in the creation of numerous fast paced and exciting soundtracks, and it still drives the creativity of composers to this day.

As we designed chipsynth MD, we couldn't help ourselves but to jam pack it with features that take it to the next level, with an access to every component of the hardware no matter how obscure, and an intelligent layering system that lets you turn any OPN2 patch into a monstrous ear-splitting 6-layer wall of sound!
CHIPSYNTH MD
MD features a bit accurate OPN2 (YM2612) emulator. We combined it with a SN76489-compatible square wave core (SPSG) and a special emulation of the very crunchy sample playback found in games, and we multiplied all of this by 6 to make it polyphonic in every situation imaginable. A complimentary VGM file player allows you to audition hundreds of vintage soundtracks just like they were meant to be heard.
Plogue's reverse-engineering team worked very hard to make sure that even the rarest corner-cases involving the special features of the OPN2 chip were emulated bit-perfectly, backed by large amounts of testing on special hardware rigs. Add the DAC and impulse-response emulation to that, and you get a degree of realism that has never been reached before!
Oh, and as always, it is done how it should: without using samples!
