View drive information

Get information about your drive and the manufacturer. SSD Fresh displays general information suitable for the hard drives that are installed in the computer. You can see for example the storage capacity and how much space is already occupied.

View S.M.A.R.T. data

Modern hard drives use a system for self-monitoring, called S.M.A.R.T. (Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology) system. It analyzes the disk and already indicates defects before they can cause data loss. SSD Fresh reads this information and displays it in the window.

Disabling the Windows defragmentation

Since SSDs have the same access time for all memory cells, there is no need to store them coherently. In addition this, the defragmentation process generates write hits, which reduce the lifetime of the SSD. Therefore, it is highly recommended to deactivate the defragmentation process.

Timestamp deactivation

Windows stores the access time for each file access. This produces unnecessary write hits and thus will reduce the lifetime of your SSD. Disabling of this feature is highly recommended.

Prefetch off

Prefetch supports preloading of frequently used applications into RAM. Because of the fast access times off SSDs, this function is useless and can be disabled.

Disabling the defragmentation of boot files

Because of the way that files are stored in SSDs, a defragmentation of boot files makes no sense and should be disabled as it reduces the lifetime of your SSD.

Deactivation of the Windows event logging

Windows permanently records system configuration changes, as well as crashes and other events from various services and programs. This creates unnecessary write accesses and reduces the lifetime of your SSD.

Storing short name off

For compatibility with old 16-bit DOS applications, Windows creates short names for folders and files, which results in additional write accesses to your SSD. Current applications do not need those names, which is why they can be disabled.

CheckDrive is an application developed to scan the hard-disk and repair any found errors.

Pretty helpful in case you're trying to fix any potential error that may occur after a system crash, CheckDrive boasts a rather eye-appealing GUI, with all options nicely organized in tabs.Starting a new drive check is as easy as choosing the item to be scanned, while a dedicated "Information" tab shows much more useful details. For example, it shows the hard drive name, type and size, drive name and size, hard disk health and number of partitions, file system and memory usage.

The scanning process doesn't take more than a few minutes and you're highly recommended to avoid working on the computer before the task comes to an end. CheckDrive is most of the time a resource-friendly application, so it doesn't affect the overall stability of the system.

A few settings are also available to enable the so-called "Background Guard", which monitors your system condition and automatically starts a drive check at a configured user interval.

CheckDrive gets along very well with all Windows versions and although it was designed to perform such an important task, it doesn't require more than basic computer knowledge.

To sum up, CheckDrive is an app that does its job very well and, what's more, it comes with a freeware license. Only a few apps on the market benefit from such a great set of features, so this one really deserves a shot.

FlashBoot is a tool to make USB storage devices bootable.

FlashBoot supports USB thumbdrives and USB HDDs. FlashBoot partitions, formats USB storage device and then automatically installs operating system files to it. Supported operating systems: Windows 8/7/Vista/XP, SysLinux-based disks, GRUB4DOS disks, Linux kernel etc. You may create blank bootable USB flash with minimal set of system files and then manually tune it for your needs, or convert a full-featured bootable CD-ROM or floppy disk to bootable USB Flash keeping all functionality.
Unlike the most bootable medias, bootable USB Flash keys are very handy: compared to floppies, they have much bigger size, speed and reliability, compared to CD/DVD discs, they are random write access devices, so you can backup your data to the same media where you booted from, without need to reformat (reburn) the entire media. Again, the cost per gigabyte for them continues to cut down, unlike CD/DVD discs.

Bootable USB flash disks are especially useful with netbooks like ASUS Eee PC which does not have builtin CD/DVD drive or an opportunity to install one. On the other hand, buying external CD/DVD drive for netbook is not a truly wise choice because it will be shifted out of use just after Windows is installed, thanks to widespread use of DVD image files and modern hard disk capacities.

Bootable USB flash disks are useful as boot devices on the "big" desktop PCs too, unlike CD/DVD discs they do not have sensible surface you could scratch, thus more reliable (especially when holding your backup data). If your sysadmin at work restricts PC to not to have CD/DVD drives, you still can boot from USB flash disk. Or if your home PC has CD/DVD drive failed, you can do it too.

There are some mobility considerations as well. If your laptop has a bootable CD/DVD drive, you can't work with it for a long time: boot device is accessed quite often, and battery power is obviously not enough to supply laser for a long time.

With bootable USB Flash disk, you don't have to obey a CD/DVD size limit of 700 or 4700 MB. You can buy a big or a small USB disk depending on your needs. Just after boot, on every PC, you may save your files to the same boot device, or restore them back. There's no need to reformat (reburn) the boot disk, you just copy files and folders, and there's no need for extra hardware for such operations. Of course you may do some things you can't do under your OS: copy/modify system files (they are busy when OS is running), reinstall OS, repartition your main hard disk etc.

The interface gets more modern still, and more user-friendly. A toolbar contains the main functionalities of the software and an inspector simplifies choosing the song and tracks settings.

Software startup and file loading have been enhanced. Scrolling and zooming are now both smoother. The install/update process is also improved.

The software is compatible with high resolution screens (Retina and HD) and touch screens.

The score-display engine has been entirely rewritten for even more realistic, professional sheet music.

Notation now includes golpe, pick scrape, and dead slap. The writing of bends in standard notation has been enhanced, and we have improved the management of conflicts between the various elements of the score.

In addition to fretted instruments like guitars, standard notation gets automatically transposed into tablature - this on all tracks, including piano, voice or drums.

Plug your guitar into an external sound card connected to Guitar Pro and apply to it the effects exactly as they have been modeled for any track in a given file.

Simply brush down the six strings together to check their tuning in a single stroke.

Many sounds have been added, including the dobro, flamenco, manouche, and 7-string nylon guitars, the electric sitar, fretless bass, jazz double bass, accordions, mellotron, harmonicas, bagpipe, new synthesizers, and drum machines.

You can choose between mono and stereo for all acoustic instruments, as well as add automatic spacialization to drumkits.

Choose and modify your sound from over 1000 presets combining a soundbank and an effects chain.

Guitar Pro 7 makes it possible, within any given single file, to mix tracks that use MIDI tones with others that use RSE tones.

The virtual-instrument (guitar, bass, banjo, and piano) windows are resizable.

You may lock your file to prevent any accidental modification. You may also add a password to it, to keep it from being opened or edited.

MP3, FLAC and Ogg formats are available when exporting RSE (Realistic Sound Engine) tracks. It is also possible to export all tracks separately in a single operation.

Imports and exports in MIDI and MusicXML formats have been improved for better compatibility between Guitar Pro and other musical software programs.
