Während meiner beruflichen Laufbahn hatte ich ein solches Buch beim Studium oder bei Auseinandersetzungen mit Problemen der elektrischen Maschinen vermißt. Der Verlag Vieweg schlug mir indes ein wesentlich komplexeres Projekt mit der Herausgabe des Handbuches Elektrische Energietechnik vor. Da in diesem Handbuch die Kapitel über Elektrische Maschinen und Antriebssysteme stark gekürzt werden mußten, gab mir der Verlag Vieweg ein paar Jahre später die Gelegenheit, ein zweites Buch, das Ihnen jetzt vorliegt, zu schreiben. Als besonderes Glück empfinde ich die Tatsache, daß ich die Mitarbeit von Prof. Dr.vlng., Dr. h.c. Alexandru Fransua, Konsultantprofessor an der TU .Politehnica" in Bukarest und mein langjähriges Vorbild, für dieses Buch sichern konnte, da ich ihn als einen der besten, interna tional etablierten Spezialisten aufdiesem Fachgebiet schätze.
