Max for Live is an exciting platform for experimenting in all things sound. It's incredibly powerful and affords the user near limitless possibilities, but it can be a bit intimidating when starting out. In this Max for Live video course, studio expert Larry Holcombe teaches you how to use it in conjunction with Ableton's BEAP, which is a set of free modules for the platform. By the end of the course, you'll be well on your way to making this formidable tool an integral part of your sound design and production workflow. These videos are for new BEAP users.
Larry begins by demonstrating how to create a very basic patch with BEAP modules so you can see how the platform works. You'll also see how to lock and unlock patches so you can edit them. Then learn how to begin shaping the sounds by adding an envelope and a VCA, so we can control the contour of the volume over time. Also watch how to arrange the modules so they've visible in Ableton.
Next, explore the process of stacking oscillators, which can create thicker tones and also allow for single-note chords. See how to blend the volume of each oscillator in the audio mixer. An LFO is then added to modulate the pitch of the oscillator. You'll also discover how to use CV modulation slots to route modulation sources to different targets and control the depth of the modulation.
Throughout the rest of the course, you'll also learn about sequencers (creating rhythmic patterns of MIDI notes), building various types of synths (granular synth, FM, wavetable), creating MIDI effects, building audio effects, and more! With a run time of over one and a half hours, there's plenty of information here to get you up and running with confidence.

Radio-frequency (RF) circuits and systems are ubiquitous parts of any electronic gadget and instrument that are widely used by the general public. RF design is often considered to be one of the most challenging areas in electrical engineering. This course series promises to deliver a comprehensive overview of RF circuits and systems. The first course covered in this series is primarily on basic concepts in RF design. Concepts such as linearity and noise will be presented and figure-of-merits to evaluate the linearity and noise performance of the RF systems will be introduced. Specifically, the course first goes over the basics of wireless transmitters and receivers. Next, the fundamental concept of power transfer in RF circuits will be briefly studied. This is followed by the analysis of large-signal behavior and the associated impairments such as gain compression and intermodulation. Next, device noise will be studied and ways of modeling the impact of various sources of noise in electronic circuits will be investigated and the concepts of noise figure and noise temperature will be introduced. However, to deliver optimal application performance under any network condition, a business-driven SD-WAN continuously monitors and self-learns the state of the network to deliver optimal application performance, even when network changes, congestion or impairments occur. A self-learning SD-WAN not only detects a resource deterioration or an outage, for example a WAN transport service or even a third-party cloud security service, it automatically remediates to keep traffic flowing while maintaining continuous compliance with business policy.Consistent Quality of Experience - A key benefit of an SD-WAN solution is the ability to actively use multiple forms of WAN transport. A basic solution can direct traffic on an application basis down a single path, and if that path fails, or is underperforming, it can dynamically redirect to a better performing link. However, with many basic solutions, failover times around outages measures in the tens of seconds or longer, often resulting in perceptible - and annoying - application interruption. A business-driven SD-WAN more intelligently monitors and manages transport services. If a policy requires a change, it is programmed once with a business-driven SD-WAN and pushed to 100s or even 1000s of nodes across the network, providing a significant increase in operational efficiency.Direct internet breakout to cloud applications - Many basic SD-WANs provide some application classification capabilities based on fixed definitions and manually scripted ACLs to send SaaS and IaaS traffic directly across the internet. This approach might work fine when initially deployed, but cloud applications change constantly. A business-driven SD-WAN must keep pace by continuously adapting to these changes, doing so with daily application definition and IP address updates. If they are not updated, the application breaks, users are disrupted and satisfaction sinks as does productivity.Holistic unification of all WAN edge functions - The WAN edge consists of a number of network services and functions including routing, WAN optimization, a multitude of security services, connectivity to DNS servers, application and network performance monitoring, load balancing and more. Many of these network services or functions are well-suited to be unified within a single SD-WAN platform. However, more sophisticated functions often require specialized technologies.
