In March 1944, Japan launched its audacious overland invasion of India from Burma. Taken by surprise, the British rear areas lay exposed and undefended except for the previously untested 50 Indian Parachute Brigade training in the jungle around Manipur.

Fight Your Way Out describes this little known but critical first major battle between Indian and Japanese armies on Indian soil. The siege is described in detail using first-hand accounts as is their daring escape through the jungle and the experiences of Indian and British survivors captured by the Japanese.
The battle at Sangshak was a heartening first indication that by 1944 for the previously all-conquering Japanese. Sangshak cost the invaders precious time from which they never recovered and set the scene for their eventual defeat at the final battles of Kohima and Imphal.

The book develops a Theory of the Figurative Lexicon. Units of the figurative lexicon (conventional figurative units, CFUs for short) differ from all other elements of the language in two points: Firstly, they are conventionalized. That is, they are elements of the mental lexicon - in contrast to freely created figurative expressions. Secondly, they consist of two conceptual levels: they can be interpreted at the level of their literal reading and at the level of their figurative meaning - which both can be activated simultaneously.

New insights into the Theory of Figurative Lexicon relate, on the one hand, to the metaphor theory. Over time, it became increasingly clear that the Conceptual Metaphor Theory in the sense of Lakoff can only partly explain the conventional figurativeness. On the other hand, it became clear that "intertextuality" plays a far greater role in the CFUs of Western cultures than previously assumed.
The book's main target audience will be linguists, researchers in phraseology, paremiology and metaphor, and cultural studies. The data and explanations of the idioms will provide a welcome textbook in courses on linguistics, culture history, phraseology research and phraseodidactics.

Trotz der erheblichen finanziellen Aufwendungen bleibt die GKV selbst eine Dauerpatientin.Der vorliegende Band 1 der neu gegründeten Publikationsreihe "Schriften zum Gesundheitsrecht" gibt die Vorträge wieder, die im Rahmen der "1. Berliner Gespräche zum Gesundheitsrecht" am 16. und 17. Juni 2003 gehalten wurden.In der Rechtsprechung des Bundesverfassungsgerichts dient die Formel von der "Sicherung der finanziellen Stabilität und damit der Funktionsfähigkeit" der GKV zur Rechtfertigung von - teilweise intensiven - Eingriffen in Grundrechte der Leistungserbringer, besonders in die grundgesetzlich geschützte Berufsfreiheit. Der Beitrag von Walter Leisner ist der Frage gewidmet, ob die finanzielle Stabilität der GKV ein grundgesetzliches Gebot darstellt; er befaßt sich wesentlich auch mit dem Aspekt der "sozialen Schutzbedürftigkeit". Friedhelm Hufen sieht den Gestaltungsspielraum des Gesetzgebers zur Durchführung weiterer "systemerhaltender" und rein kostenorientierter Reformmaßnahmen mit Rücksicht auf die Grundrechte der Leistungserbringer geringer, als durch die Rechtsprechung des Bundesverfassungsgerichts konzediert. It was especially dedicated to Prof. Dr. Peter Louis Antonelli, the liaison officer in the Memorandum, an untired promoter of Finsler, Lagrange and Hamilton geometries, very close to the Romanian School of Geometry led by Prof. Dr. Radu Miron. The dedica tion wished to mark also the 60th birthday of Prof. Dr. Peter Louis Antonelli. With this occasion a Diploma was given to Professor Dr. Peter Louis Antonelli conferring the title of Honorary Professor granted to him by the Senate of the oldest Romanian University (140 years), the "Al.I.Cuza" University, Ia§i, Roma nia. There were almost fifty participants from Egypt, Greece, Hungary, Japan, Romania, USA. There were scheduled 45 minutes lectures as well as short communications.
