Siemens PLM Software pleased to announce the release of Simcenter Femap version 2020.2. This latest release provides a variety of improvements that will help your productivity across the simulation workflow.

Simcenter Femap is a finite element modeling and post-processing environment. It interacts with solvers such as Nastran to model physical behavior to assist in the drawing of conclusions about said behavior. Solvers typically require strict text file-based formatting of your analysis setup, which nobody does directly anymore. Instead, programs such as Femap are used to prepare those text file inputs to the solver using a combination of a modern graphical user interface built-in functions to automate tedious tasks.

Simcenter Nastran is a separate "solver" product that is usually bundled within Femap. Simcenter Nastran (formerly NX Nastran) is an actively-developed offshoot of the Nastran code base, but is one of the most common solvers for finite element analysis (FEA). Nastran is essentially the math behind FEA. As a pre-processor, Femap assists with building a model of a part, and then translates it into Nastran code. Nastran then computes the behavior. Following this, Femap reads the results and provides interpretation tools to facilitate the processing of output data. Oftentimes, the amount of information from the model is substantial, and Femap can enable a more rapid understanding of gross behavior.

Welcome to FEMAP! This document will help you to setup your computer so that you can immediately begin to explore the many capabilities of FEMAP.

This document contains information specific to getting started on a PC, which includes 64-bit versions for Windows 7, Win-dows 8, Windows 8.1, and Windows 10.

The FEMAP installer contains only the 64-bit version of FEMAP, as a 32-bit version is no longer available.

Hardware/Software Requirements

There are no special hardware/software requirements for FEMAP beyond those imposed by the Windows operating systems. There are many types of hardware that will allow you to use FEMAP. Proper choice of hardware, however, can often make the difference between frustration and productivity. Here are a few suggestions:

- Memory, RAM
- Memory, (Hard Disk)
- Graphics Boards

Memory, RAM
You will need at least 128 Mbytes of RAM to run FEMAP and the Parasolid solid modeling engine, which is the default. Obviously, the more amount of RAM the better. Adding RAM can be one of the most cost effective means of increasing per-formance.If using the "Standard" geometry Engine in FEMAP, you can actually run with as little as 32 Mbytes of RAM. This is not a recommended configuration.

Memory, (Hard Disk)
Required hard disk space is very difficult to estimate, but in general you will never have enough. Analysis results will be the main driver of any disk space requirement. Models are typically relatively small. A model with 1000 nodes and 1000 ele-ments would typically be less than 1 Mbyte in size. Output from an analysis of that model, however, could be 5 Mbytes, 10 Mbytes or even larger, depending on the output you request. To estimate total disk space, you need to first estimate how many models you will have on-line simultaneously, the approximate size of those models, and the type of output you will request. It is recommend to have as much disk space as budget will allow, as each version of FEMAP can support larger and larger models, which in turn create larger and larger amounts of output.

Graphics Boards
While, standard graphics adapters may work very well with FEMAP, having a specialized board with support for OpenGL will provide increased graphical performance when dynamically rotating large, complex models. They also usually provide higher resolution and more colors, which make graphics easier to see and more realistic. Also, in order to use the "Perfor-mance Graphics" option, a graphics card which supports OpenGL 4.2 is required.

Connect AirPods (or other Bluetooth headphones) to your Mac with a single click or keypress. AirPods are great, but they don't work quite as smoothly with Macs as they do iPhones. You can't tell at a glance whether audio will play from the AirPods or your Mac's built-in speaker, you have to dig into a Bluetooth submenu to connect, and then you have to go back to the menu to see when the AirPods are ready for use.

- Works with AirPods, as well as any Bluetooth headphones, speakers, or headset that you can connect to your Mac.

- Click the hollow AirPods icon in the menu bar to switch to AirPods. It fills in to show they are connected and also displays a battery indicator.

- Supports multiple Bluetooth audio devices; you can choose a different icon and hotkey for each.

- Get the best audio quality. macOS will normally use the SCO codec if it thinks you're going to use the microphone. ToothFairy can ensure that it uses the higher quality AAC codec when you only care about audio output: listening to music or video or playing a game.

- Disconnect a Bluetooth device by clicking the icon (or pressing the hotkey) again, so that you can switch back to your phone. AirPods and Beats devices with an Apple W1 chip do not need to be manually disconnected, and you can set them to "Connection only mode" to avoid accidental disconnetions when pressing the hotkey multiple times.

- ToothFairy automatically launches at login, so it's always there when you need it.

- Optionally hide the Dock icon so it only appears in the menu bar. With the Dock icon hidden, you can right-click (or Control-click) the menu bar icon to access the settings.

- Run a shell script when the AirPods are connected or disconnected.

Note: ToothFairy works with devices that can be connected via the macOS Bluetooth menu. Please make sure the devices you want to connect have been paired to the system correctly before using them with ToothFairy.

Image enlargement: interpolation vs machine learning

8Dio Studio Vintage Series: CP70 Electric Grand Piano KONTAKT | 23.8 Gb

8Dio Studio Vintage Series represents the most comprehensively deep-sampled collection of vintage keyboards. The famous Yamaha CP-70 is no exception to extreme sampling. We sampled this legendary Electric Grand Piano in such detail that it will never need to be sampled again. 94.604 samples to be exact.

The Electric Grand Piano is similar to a normal piano, except that the vibration of the strings is converted by electric pickups, similar to that of an Electric Guitar.

We recorded and processed the CP-70 at 24-Bit / 96Khz at our famous British Studio through a large custom NEVE desk. The Vintage CP-70 contains both standard (Sustains, Staccato, Staccatissimo w/ RR) and a large assortment of prepared articulations (Ex. Plucked Strings, Picked Strings, Muted Strings, Harmonics etc.). All standard sustain samples were recorded with both pedal up and pedal down positions. In addition we also two types of staccatissimo (w/ round robin) for fast playing styles.

We also opened up the Vintage CP-70 and recorded the insides of it, including plucking the tines and gently muting them for different types of sounds. The Vintage CP-70 Piano also contains a large selection of presets, which shows many variations of the instrument. The library contains 8 different types of vintage microphones and 2 different types of world-class reverbs. The microphones includes Neumann 87's, Coles, Neve SE Ribbon's, AKG 414's, Neumann KM 184's and a mixed microphone position, which was made by combining all 24 microphones used in the sessions. We also recorded all samples through two world-class reverbs (Bricasti and TC-Electronics 6000), so you have the best microphones and reverbs right at your finger tips. The CP-70 was recorded with a 100% analogue NEVE Pre-Amp Signal Flow and further enhanced with a physical hardware chain, including Manley Vari Mu Compressor, Original Urei 1176 (Pre-Universal Audio), Original DBX 160, Neve 33609 Compressor.
