BETA CAE Systems announces the release of the ANSA/EPILYSIS/META 19.1.4 series. Apart from fixes for detected issues, this version also hosts noteworthy enhancements and implementations.

Enhancements and known issues resolved in ANSA

Enhancements in ANSA
- A new option named "Search for common bounds" expands the geometric differences between compared models and expands them until common bounds are located (i.e. bounds that can be pasted). This further improves the topological integrity of model comparison results.
- New options that affect the handling of Internal/ External Connections, Connectors, GEBs, and Model Setup Entities, during "Change Representation" offer now the capability to select whether these entities will be kept or deleted.
Known issues resolved in ANSA
- Applying a Connector defined on Assembly Points, while Loadcase Points were pointing to the corresponding Interface nodes of the Assembly Points, could cause unexpected termination.
- Fixed unexpected termination in the cases where a seamline with MPC-CBUSH-MPC representation connects a curvy feature line to a flange.
- Executing the Extrude [Glide] functionality inserting a negative value at Steps field, could lead to unexpected termination.
- Unexpected termination might occur, if an invalid entry was specified in the SID or LCID fields for NASTRAN and LS-DYNA decks respectively.

Known issues resolved in EPILYSIS
- Unexpected termination could occur when SPCF was used as a response type in DRESP1.
- The issue with unreadable .op2 due to large records size has been fixed with the addition of the OP2RECSZ parameter.

- It is now possible to define more than one user limits in the relevant column of the dummies' spreadsheets and define each with a different color.
- It is now possible to select and hide elements multiple times. Compatibility assessment creates now two pages for each assessment, containing their timestep in each page's name.

- Unexpected termination could occur, when drawing both BEAM elements and Contact Entities while having the Vector Fringebar activated.
- Switching between different pages performance has been improved.
- Unexpected termination could occur while reading CFD .fld result files exported from SC_TETRA.
- Unexpected termination could occur when creating annotations that contained parsable script call.
- Report saved in project file could not be read in META Viewer

- Facilitates the configuration of devices that are managed by mobile device management (MDM) settings, which are created by ADMX ingestion. This security update includes quality improvements. Key changes include:

- Provides protections against a new subclass of speculative execution side-channel vulnerabilities, known as Microarchitectural Data Sampling, for 32-Bit (x86) versions of Windows (CVE-2019-11091, CVE-2018-12126, CVE-2018-12127, CVE-2018-12130). Use the registry settings as described in the Windows Client and Windows Server articles. (These registry settings are enabled by default for Windows Client OS editions and Windows Server OS editions.)
- Addresses an issue that causes high CPU usage from SearchUI.exe for a small number of users. This issue only occurs on devices that have disabled searching the web using Windows Desktop Search.

It does not, however, deliver much in in the way of improvements around hyperconvergence or software-defined infrastructure. As a semiannual channel release, version 1903 is more focused around application scenarios that benefit from faster innovation. For those looking to access more infrastructure-based features such as Storage Spaces Direct or shielded virtual machines, Microsoft recommends Windows Server 2019.

Among the new features that are available in Windows Server version 1903 is Windows Server container support in Kubernetes, as well as "GPU acceleration in Windows containers, and scalability improvements in the latest release of Flannel and Kubernetes v1.14."

Simulation Utility

Expanded Materials Functionality
New materials can be added to the library either by duplicating an existing material, or by importing a material property file. The system checks new material properties to ensure that they represent realistic values. Thermal properties of materials can be plotted instantly on a graph. A new generic material, AlSl 4340 Alloy Steel, has been added to the library.
PRM File Updates
Custom PRM files that failed to generate are clearly marked in red in the PRM library. A new PRM file for AlSl 4340 Alloy Steel, has been added to the library.
Build Plate Imports
Users can import an STL file to use as a custom build plate, providing the freedom to use non-rectangular build plates. A new Tutorial 24 shows a working example.
Mechanical Constraint Display
The display of simulation results now include a Constraints option to display the mechanical constraints on the build plate. This option applies to both powder bed fusion and directed energy deposition (DED) simulations.
Heat Treatment Improvements
Scheduled times are now shown in hours rather than seconds, to support standard industry practice. A new Show Plot button displays a temperature-over-time plot of the specified heat treatment process. Dwell times can be added to a simulation, specifying a duration in seconds to pause at specified build heights for operations such as refilling powder or machining during a hybrid printing process. A thermal gradient option has been added as a new result type, so users can see a gradient of temperature change per unit length.

Structure Type results can now show unsupported elements in a model.

NetFabb Local Simulation. is a non-linear finite element thermo-mechanical solver for additive manufacturing (AM) processes. With the graphical user interface, Local Simulation users can easily set up, execute, and examine analysis results. Advanced users may prefer the command-line interface to access advanced or beta features of Local Simulation.

Simulation can be used to perform predictive modeling of the AM build process to help guide the design and manufacture of AM parts. Simulation can model AM processes directly, using traditional moving-source thermo-mechanical methods, or rapidly model large and complex geometries using a unique accurate and fast multi-scale methodology. These models result in histories of temperature, distortion, and stress fields, which coupled with warnings for support structure failure or recoater blade interference, can be used to improve manufacturability for a variety of AM technologies.

Highlights

Brand New Look and Feel
The InfraWorks user interface has been upgraded and modernized. The new look and feel includes enhanced visual styles, more effective organization of tools and icons, as well as more consistency across dialogs and panels.
Publish to ArcGIS
We've added the ability to publish InfraWorks features to ArcGIS.
Alignment and Profile Updates from Civil 3D
You can now use the Reimport command to update alignments and profiles that you have brought into InfraWorks from Autodesk Civil 3D. This improvement allows bridge designers to fetch road alignment updates from Civil 3D.
Multi-User License Support
InfraWorks as part of the AEC collection now supports standard Autodesk Network Licenses, which allows for multi-user licensing. At install time you will now be able to select a network license server location or a single user license from the new license manager. See To Install InfraWorks for more information.

Add-ins for Autodesk InfraWorks
- Added the ability to install both the previous release version and current release version of the Autodesk Revit Infraworks Updater and Autodesk Inventor Infrastructure Modeler Plugin. See About Add-Ins for InfraWorks
Autodesk Connector for ArcGIS
- We've added the ability to publish InfraWorks features to ArcGIS.
- We've added the Export to FGDB command for exporting InfraWorks features to a file geodatabase that can be used in ArcGIS Online or another application.
- With appropriate permissions, users of InfraWorks that load a dataset from ArcGIS will now be able to save local changes back to the ESRI feature service using the Save Back command.
Civil Structures
- We've improved the Send to Revit workflow to allow for improved Revit project template set-up, as well as the ability to map InfraWorks feature types to Revit categories once your data is opened in Revit, provided that you create a new Revit model in your Send to Revit operation. See Send to Revit.
- Added the ability to add a bridge abutment or foundation back to the bridge after it has been removed.
- Improved the Send to Revit functionality so that volume information for each direct shape is passed to Revit as a shared parameter.
- Removed the Create Steel Bridge icon from the Bridge Design toolset. We removed this tool because it only applied to legacy, non parametric bridges and did not allow for the use of mixed girder types on the same bridge. Steel bridges can now be created with much more detail and more realistic steel girders by simply applying either the Steel Plate or Steel Box girders to any parametric bridge using the Create Parametric Bridge tool.
Collaboration
- We've added support for the "View and Download" BIM 360 permission level, which allows InfraWorks users to view models on their desktop in read-only mode without being able to sync changes back to the cloud.
Data Exchange with Civil 3D
- You can now use the Reimport command to update alignments and profiles that you have brought into InfraWorks from Autodesk Civil 3D. This improvement allows bridge designers to fetch road alignment updates from Civil 3D.
Extended Schema
- We've added import/export capabilities to the Extend Schema tool so that users can easily move or add schema extensions.
General
- InfraWorks has a brand new user interface featuring a new toolbar, new visual styles, tighter organization of tools, and the removal of the in-canvas Intelligent Tool icons.
- We have improved our keyboard shortcuts by removing the ones that were not frequently used and adding keyboard shortcuts for the most frequently used actions in InfraWorks. In addition, any action in the new InfraWorks toolbar that has a keyboard shortcut will display the shortcut in the user interface.
- The Application Options panel now provides a new User Interface tab with a button to restore original quick access settings in the Toolbar if they were changed.

- We've added a new terrain generation option in the Model Properties dialog for choosing whether to generate the model terrain for speed or for precision.
Model Builder
- We've updated the Model Builder model creation workflow to allow all users to choose whether to store their models locally or in BIM 360. Model builder previously only allowed users to save to BIM 360 if they had any type of BIM 360 account. Now users will be prompted with every new Model Builder model to select either saving the model to their local system, or storing the model in a BIM 360 Document Management project. Roadway Design
- We've added new context menu options for reviewing or modifying component roads in-canvas or via the profile view graph.
- We've added the ability to input design speed for a selected component road using an editable annotation.
- When editing road curve annotations, design standard violations and invalid input errors are displayed in a new tooltip near the editing box. The new warning messages include guidance on minimum radius for the design speed of the road and a range of valid input values.
- The station range of a selected road will now be displayed in the Road stack.
- The "Runoff on Tangent" and "Runoff on Spiral" values are now editable in the Stack when a curve is selected and Superelevation is on.
- In the profile view the station tracker now displays the station and elevation of the road according to its location along the road.
- The active tracker toggle allows the station tracker location to be controlled by moving the cursor in the profile view window.
- We've added the ability to control the color of individual cut and fill grading zones in a road design. A new material entry is now shown in the user interface, one for cut and one for fill.
- We've improved the Profile View panel so that the cross section viewer updates its display dynamically based on the location of the station tracker in the profile view.
Surface Layers
- We've added the ability to toggle the display of surface layers on or off from within the cross section view.
- We've improved the process of importing surface data to notify you when surface data is uncategorized and not visible, providing an option to open the Surface Layers dialog to categorize the data.
- We've enhanced support for terrain surfaces by adding an opacity field in the Stack panel so that each terrain layer can be rendered as transparent according to opacity. See To add or modify surface layers.
Traffic Simulation
- We are turning off the cloud based simulation service and will instead be hosting this service locally. From a user perspective, the Traffic Simulation capabilities will not change.
Visualization
- We've added the Performance Check and Framerate tools to the toolbar.
- We've improved the functionality of the frame per second (FPS) rate counter in InfraWorks. Previously, when toggling on the FPS rate counter using its keyboard shortcut (CRTL + SHIFT + ALT + F), the current rate of frames per second were displayed. We've improved this functionality to instead calculate and report the current average frame rate. This improvement can help users to optimize model performance, especially when creating custom content libraries for use in InfraWorks. See Keyboard Shortcuts.

The National Instruments team is pleased to announce the availability of ELVIS III Software Bundle 2019 SP1. ThIs bundle provides the NI ELVIS III Toolkit and relevant LabVIEW software add-ons and drivers needed to create applications for NI ELVIS III.


The NI ELVIS III is a software-based solution built to address the pedagogical needs of professors and instructors worldwide. To effectively meet the needs of a such a diverse audience, however, NI ELVIS must provide a software experience that can be seamlessly integrated into a wide array of existing curriculum with the ability to adapt as course goals change. To best meet instructor expectations for student outcomes, NI ELVIS III not only features a lightweight instrumentation driver, but provides compatibility with LabVIEW, Python, C and The MathWorks, Inc Matlab and Simulink.

Debug and Troubleshoot with NI ELVIS III Instrumentation Software
Instructors get full access to the suite of instrumentation available for NI ELVIS III from a 200MB driver install. This is provided on the device itself or online on measurementslive.ni.com. Once installed, instructors and students can launch NI ELVIS Instruments from the Measurements live experience or locally on the device.

Acquire and Process with Python
Using the NI ELVIS III API for Python, instructors gain access to the wealth of IO available from the embedded processor through the Python environment. This includes the 40 digital IO lines 16 Analog inputs and four Analog outputs. The API also provides seamless access to the SPI, I2C URT and PWM channels. Students get to code basic acquisition tasks, verify measurements and design simple data acquisition systems in Python.

Design and Automate Systems with LabVIEW
Instructors get access to the NI ELVIS III LabVIEW API which provides a fast and intuitive connection to all the IO available on NI ELVIS III. Complete with examples and templates for common design architectures, students can create automated programs that deploy and interact with real hardware for electrics, power, communications and controls and mechatronics applications.

Simulate and Verify with Multisim Live
Instructors can design curriculum that utilizes the Multisim Live environment for circuit simulation and testing. Simulated signals can be brought into the NI ELVIS III Instrumentation environment as virtual channels to be compared against signals from real circuits built by students.

Model and Control with Matlab and Simulink
Instructors have access to the model of the Quanser Control plant for NI ELVIS III in the Matlab environment. They can interact with the curriculum provided for the plant and have students verify functionality before deploying to real hardware. Students can design their own controllers and view how their adjustments impact the control of the hardware plant.

The NI Educational Laboratory Virtual Instrumentation Suite (NI ELVIS) is a modular engineering educational laboratory device developed specifically for academia. With its hands-on approach, educators can help students learn practical, experimental engineering skills. The NI ELVIS III includes an oscilloscope, digital multimeter, function generator, variable power supply, Bode analyzer, and other common lab instruments. You can connect a PC to the NI ELVIS using USB and build circuits on its detachable protoboard.

Pinnacle Studio Ultimate is Corel's big brother video editing application to their more simplified version, VideoStudio Ultimate. New version features loads of new tools typically found on much more advanced NLE such as Multicam editing, video masking, 360 video editing, color grading keyframing, and so on.

If you're not familiar with Pinnacle Studio, it's a Windows-only video editing software initially designed for beginners and prosumers users. The idea behind Pinnacle Studio is that everybody should be able to do simple video edits.
