In contrast to previous Varenna meetings on diagnostics, which have covered diagnostics in present-day tokamaks and which have had a substantial tutorial component, the 1995 workshop concentrated specifically on the problems and challenges of ITER diagnostics. ITER (the International Thennonuclear Experimental Reactor, a joint venture of Europe, Japan, Russia, and the United States, presently under design) will need to measure a wide range of plasma parameters in order to reach and sustain high levels of fusion power. A list of the measurement requirements together with the parameter ranges, target measurement resolutions, and accuracies provides the starting point for selecting a list of candidate diagnostic systems.

"Meine Spektrallinien sind endlich in der Akademie in's Unreine gedruckt. In den Annalen werden sie in geläuterter Form erscheinen", so hatte Sommerfeld am 10. Februar 1916 dem Herausgeber der Annalen der Physik diese Publikation angekündigt. Aus wissenschaftshistorischer Sicht sind für die Erweiterung der Bohrschen Atomtheorie jedoch gerade die vor dem Läuterungsprozess publizierten Akademieabhandlungen von besonderem Interesse. Der Reproduktion dieser Akademieabhandlungen wird ein ausführlicher physikhistorischer Essay (ca. 100 Druckseiten) vorangestellt.

Zwischendrin habe ich sie dann mal verloren, in ihrer dunklen Zeit, als sie sich vor Verzweiflung, wie lange es dauert, Veränderungen herbeizuführen, Konrad Stettbacher zuwandte. Aber dann kam sie zurück und dieses Buch ist ein würdiges Abschiedsbuch. Ihrer Kernthese ist sie treu geblieben, dass es gesellschaftlich verboten ist, wahrzunehmen, wie Kinder brutal misshandelt werden und wie sehr dies auch für Therapien gilt. Und da hat sie wohl recht. Sie macht es am vierten Gebot fest ("Du sollst Vater und Mutter ehren") und weist nach, dass dies zu einer entsprechenden Programmierung geführt hat.
In Wahrheit ist es natürlich nicht neu, dass der Körper eine bestimmte Sprache spricht, wenn er krank wird. Es gibt sehr viel und auch sehr viel gute und einfühlsame Literatur, die psychosomatische Zusammenhänge beschreibt. Aber keiner hat sich so deutlich auf die Seite des Kindes gestellt und keiner hat so radikal Empathiefähigkeit von Therapeuten eingefordert.'

Der sorgfältige Umgang mit dieser Definition liefert den Schlüssel zur Auflösung der relativistischen Paradoxa, wie dies ausführlich beim Zwillingsparadoxon gezeigt wird. Die Unterscheidung von Korrelation und Wechselwirkung erlaubt eine Betrachtung von Tachyonen, ohne die Kausalität zu verletzen. Anhand eines Gittermodells der relativistischen Raum-Zeit kann am Ende sogar das Zustandekommen der Längenkontraktion, der Zeitdilatation und der relativistischen Massenformel veranschaulicht werden. Es werden die Schlüsselexperimente erklärt und 48 Übungsaufgaben vorgerechnet.
