Sketchboard
Our Sketchboard is a a virtual desk or canvas that allows you to draw and experiment outside of any glyph. It's great for collecting sketches, separating artwork into glyph images, or just drawing logos and symbols using all of FontLab's juicy Bézier magic. You can also arrange text frames showing different fonts you're working on, and export the contents into a PDF or SVG for proofing.

Pixel-savvy
Drag-drop or copy-paste pixel images in most formats, with mono, grayscale, full color and transparency support. Improved Split and autotrace or place the images into the img layer for reference to draw over them. Rotate and scale imported graphics, crop, blur, remove noise and background.

For design space explorers
A font family consists of fonts that have different locations on one or more design space Axes, such as width, weight, slant or optical size. To create interpolated instances or a variable OpenType (TT or new CFF2) font from one or more Font masters, use Font Info to add the axes and assign axis locations for all font masters within your FontLab font.

In an instance
Easily plan your Instances for an extensive font family or a variable font. With axis instances, define per-axis interpolation locations and style phrases, and FontLab will automatically build a matrix of all instances for all axes, with correct Style names and Style groups.

From Multiple Master to Variations
Thanks to our Variations engine based on MutatorMath, your Masters no longer need to stand in the MM corners, but can be placed freely within the design space. Unlimited axes, intermediate font masters, glyph masters that affect only certain glyphs give you complete freedom in designing interpolable font families and variable OpenType fonts.

Intelligent interpolation

Powerful anchors
Position Anchors manually or link their positions to other anchors or guides with math expressions. FontLab will display all matching diacritical marks in the Anchor Cloud, and will use your anchors to generate composite glyphs and the mark/mkmk OpenType features.

Components, References, and Auto layers
Use Components to build accented letters or ligatures from other glyphs - the composite glyphs you create will inherit outlines, guides and anchors from the component sources. Or turn on Auto layer, and the metrics and component positions in the composite glyph layer will always stay up-to-date.

Flag and tag glyphs
Sort glyphs by the Color Flags (marks), and organize your glyphs with Tags: assign multiple labels to your glyphs, then assign the same tags to font guidelines, stems and zones, and they'll only appear in the tagged glyphs.

Glyph and character search
Just type. We can find glyphs by glyph name, Unicode character name, script, codepage, encoding, range - you name it. FontLab also has improved friendly alternatives to standard glyph names built in. TrueType Hinting
We've completely revamped FontLab's beloved visual TrueType Hinting (TTH) engine, and added TTFAutohint as an alternative engine. FontLab 7 includes a true Microsoft ClearType preview (even on the Mac version), has a streamlined user interface, allows you to attach visual TTH commands to PostScript outlines and overlapping paths, and has built-in functionality to copy TTH commands from one font to another, or from one glyph in a font to a similar one.

Express export with Profiles
Trying to duplicate a bunch of preference settings to output a specific font could be painful. In FontLab, we have introduced Profiles for font generation. Each profile is a group of settings for generating output fonts in a particular format. FontLab 7 has a set of improved profiles for all our standard output formats, and you can easily create new profiles to meet your particular needs.

Why Work with Quads?
When you have a mesh based on quads it add a lot of benefits. The mesh becomes more regular and predictable. The grid structure that comes from quads provide meshes with directions of flow.
Tools can follow an edge and select loops in a predictable order.
Or they can select every opposite edge, making a ring selection.
UV mapping is also easier - the grid makes the mesh easier to map seamless texture mapping.

Working with Quads in SketchUp
When working with quad based meshes you quickly discover the need for quads where the vertices aren't coplanar.
In SketchUp this can be a challenge because SketchUp's Auto-Fold feature will break a quad into two triangles once it's vertices isn't coplanar any more.
To allow extensions to work with quads that are not coplanar they need to be able to determine which pair of triangles represent a quad. There is no official standard for this, but the de-facto standard is the QuadFace Tools type of quads.
The definition of a QuadFace Tools quad is that two triangles share an edge which is soft and smooth - with Cast Shadows turned off.
It is highly recommended that you also install QuadFace Tools to assist in creating quad based meshes for subdividing with SUbD. I is a core tool for creating ideal geometry that subdivide well.

TransAbacus is an essential tool for translators to estimate and budget web site translation or localization projects.
TransAbacus gets a website address or URL and returns the list of pages on the site, with the number of words for each one. Optionally, the user can also get the number of words in title, alt text and meta-tags (whose translation is as important as the body translation because several search engines use them to accurately index the web page, but unfortunately they are generally not considered at estimation time). Additionally, TransAbacus counts the words in text files linked by the URL (the current version of TransAbacus counts the words for .pdf, .txt and .rtf files)

FULL WORD COUNTING
TransAbacus does not only count the amount of words in the body of a web page, but also counts the words for title, meta tags and alt text. You can switch on/off these options in the main window.

LINKED FILES WORD COUNTING
TransAbacus counts the files attached to a web page. Current version of TransAbacus supports .pdf, .txt and .rtf file counting.

SEVERAL COUNTING OPTIONS
TransAbacus has the ability to ignore repeated sentences (strings finished with dot). This option can be switched on/off in the main window, and it's of great use for those professionals who use computer-assisted translation (CAT) tools, like Trados. Our product offers more counting options, like counting numeric strings as words.

FILTER THE WEBSITE YOU ARE COUNTING
Sometimes you don't need to count a whole website, you only need to count a subset of it. With the filter functionality, you can tell TransAbacus the URL patterns to exclude and/or include during the counting process. This function is very useful when counting multilingual sites (you don't need to count the pages in every language; you only need the word count for one language only, so you can exclude the others), or when you know the site you are counting has a lot of content that will not be translated (for example, you can exclude the pages with photo galleries).

Pictures Thumbnails Maker provides you with a comprehensive tool intended for creating picture collages and thumbnail sheets. The application can process a large number of images and comes with a predefined set of layouts that you can use.

The tool consists of:
- Pictures Thumbnails Maker = MAKER
- Pictures Thumbnails Viewer = VIEWER

The VIEWER is designed for opening PTX files produced by the MAKER, offering the possibility to view the original full-sized image, navigate through pictures and sheets (the history navigation is recorded), recreate a selected thumbnail without regenerating the whole sheet and more.

Once a thumbnail sheet is created, the VIEWER makes it easy and pretty "plain" to navigate through folders and zip-archives. Double-click on a thumbnail to open its source (a full-sized original image). You can always get back to your sheet by pressing Escape (or Backspace) button. Mouse wheel cycles through pictures and sheets in current folder. Right click on a thumbnail to open its context menu. You can delete undesired pictures, remake a particular thumbnail without regenerating the whole sheet, substitute a thumbnail automatically or manually, regenerate the whole sheet in one click and much more.

MAKER's Key Features:
- A thumbnail sheet is generated from a so called "set" of files (pictures from a separate folder or an archive); for instance, if you add a folder with 3 zip-archives and - 8 separate pictures in it - 4 sheets will be created (3 for archives and 1 for 8 separate pictures)
- Plenty of options and special effects (see screenshots above); momentary rendered visual preview of your settings right in the Options window
- 5 customizable "base"-presets (see examples above); special (non-"MxN") matrices with big tiles
- You can generate GIF-animations and HTML Galleries automatically using separate tiles of your sheets
- Batch processing; you can pause/continue or stop active job at any moment
- Options preset file format (*.ptm). After you run a preset, the program is automatically opened with the imported tuning
- Command Line Interface (CLI, works only in activated version)
- Zip, 7z and Rar archives are fully supported by the MAKER

VIEWER's Key Features:
- Zip and 7z archives are fully transparent to the program; you can manage a picture without worrying about its actual location; if a pictures is situated in a Zip or 7z archive the program will update the archive automatically
- Rar archives are partly transparent to the VIEWER (automatic unpacking only); that means you can still navigate through pictures in Rar archives, but you can not delete/rename files in such archives (RAR license restriction)
*.ptx is a special "thumbnail gallery" or "sheet of thumbnails" file format; it is used by Pictures Thumbnails Viewer; a file with .ptx extension could be easily opened by double clicking on it in any file manager
*.vtx files are supported (that files are produced by Video Thumbnails Maker); the VIEWER allows you to start the video from its thumbnail sheet
- Pictures Thumbnails Viewer keeps history of your navigation through thumbnail sheets; so you can "jump back and back" using Escape or Backspace keys
- You can substitute any part of your thumbnail sheet right from the viewer as well as regenerate the entire sheet
- Detailed picture info appears when moving the mouse cursor to the right screen border (somewhere at the middle point)
