What is Kotlin?

It is an open-source statically typed programming language designed by JetBrains. Yep, the same guys who created IntelliJ IDEA. You may say "IntelliJ is the best IDE for JAVA, those people know how to do the stuff, this Kotlin might be a really good tool" - and you are right! I mean, if you like JAVA and think it is a cool language then Kotlin is even cooler. Why? I will show you later.

Kotlin is object-oriented and supports functional programming features. It is designed for the JVM (Java Virtual Machine). What does that mean? That is fully compatible with JAVA. Actually, to be honest, Kotlin is Java with some extra pieces of stuff. What does that mean? Those languages can be used in parallel in the same project. For example, you can easily use JAVA libraries in Kotlin's project, but Kotlin gives you more out of the box. It is focused on interoperability, safety, clarity, and tooling support. You can use it to a code Back-end server, Andriod Apps or even iOS app using Kotlin Native. Another interesting fact is that you can compile Kotlin to JavaScript.

OK, that sounds good, but why is it better than JAVA?

The first argument which comes to my mind is Kotlin's syntax. When working with Kotlin, we can reduce the code by a lot of lines. Such code will be more transparent and easy to understand. JAVA is a really nice language, but as the project expands, the number of code lines increases logarithmically. Eventually, you will need a significant amount of time to find what you are looking for in your code. Developers of Kotlin tried to get rid of this disadvantage, and they did so very well

Cryptography has been used for thousands of years to help to provide confidential communications between mutually trusted parties. In its most basic form, two people, often denoted as Alice and Bob, have agreed on a particular secret key. At some later time, Alice may wish to send a secret message to Bob (or Bob might want to send a message to Alice). The key is used to transform the original message (which is usually termed the plaintext) into a scrambled form that is unintelligible to anyone who does not possess the key. This process is called encryption and the scrambled message is called the ciphertext. When Bob receives the ciphertext, he can use the key to transform the ciphertext back into the original plaintext; this is the decryption process. A cryptosystem constitutes a complete specification of the keys and how they are used to encrypt and decrypt information. Various types of cryptosystems of increasing sophistication have been used for many purposes throughout history. Important applications have included sensitive communications between political leaders and/or royalty, military maneuvers, etc. However, with the development of the internet and applications such as electronic commerce, many new diverse applications have emerged. These include scenarios such as encryption of passwords, credit card numbers, email, documents, files, and digital media.

It should also be mentioned that cryptographic techniques are also widely used to protect stored data in addition to data that is transmitted from one party to another. For example, users may wish to encrypt data stored on laptops, on external hard disks, in the cloud, in databases, etc. Additionally, it might be useful to be able to perform computations on encrypted data (without first decrypting the data).

The development and deployment of a cryptosystem must address the issue of security. Traditionally, the threat that cryptography addressed was that of an eavesdropping adversary who might intercept the ciphertext and attempt to decrypt it. If the adversary happens to possess the key, then there is nothing that can be done. Thus the main security consideration involves an adversary who does not possess the key, who is still trying to decrypt the ciphertext. The techniques used by the adversary to attempt to "break" the cryptosystem are termed cryptanalysis. The most obvious type of cryptanalysis is to try to guess the key. An attack wherein the adversary tries to decrypt the ciphertext with every possible key in turn is termed an exhaustive key search. When the adversary tries the correct key, the plaintext will be found, but when any other key is used, the "decrypted" ciphertext will likely be random gibberish. So an obvious first step in designing a secure cryptosystem is to specify a very large number of possible keys, so many that the adversary will not be able to test them all in any reasonable amount of time.

Python Is Easy to Use

The major goal of any programming language is to bridge the gap between the programmer's brain and the computer. Most of the popular languages you've probably heard of, like Visual Basic, C#, and Java, are considered high-level languages, which means that they're closer to human language than machine language. And they are. But Python, with its clear and simple rules, is even closer to English. Creating Python programs is so straightforward that it's been called "programming at the speed of thought." Python's ease of use translates into productivity for professional programmers. Python programs are shorter and take less time to create than programs in many other popular languages.

Python Is Powerful

Python has all the power you'd expect from a modern programming language. By the end of this book, you'll be able to write programs that employ a GUI, process files, and use a variety of data structures. Python Is Object-Oriented

It's certainly not the only way to write programs, but, for large projects, it's often the best way to go Languages like C#, Java, and Python are all object-oriented. But Python does them one better. In C# and Java, OOP is not optional. This makes short programs unnecessarily complex, and it requires a bunch of explanations before a new programmer can do anything significant. Python takes a different approach. In Python, using OOP techniques is optional. You have all of OOP's power at your disposal, but you can use it when you need it. Got a short program that doesn't really require OOP? No problem. Got a large project with a team of programmers that demands OOP? That'll work too. Python gives you power and flexibility.

Python Is a "Glue" Language

Python can be integrated with other languages such as C, C++, and Java. This means that a programmer can take advantage of work already done in another language while using Python. It also means that he or she can leverage the strengths of other languages, such as the extra speed that C or C++ might offer, while still enjoying the ease of development that's a hallmark of Python programming.

Python Runs Everywhere

Python runs on everything from a Palm to a Cray. And if you don't happen to have a supercomputer in the den, you can still run Python on Windows, Macintosh, or Linux machines. And that's just the top of the list. Python programs are platform-independent, which means that regardless of the operating system you use to create your program, it'll run on any other computer with Python. So if you write a program on your PC, you can e-mail a copy to your friend who runs Linux or to your aunt who has a Mac, and the program will work (as long as your friend and aunt have Python installed on their computers).

Python Has a Strong Community

Most programming languages have a dedicated newsgroup, but Python also has something called the Python Tutor mailing list, a more informal way for beginning programmers to ask those first questions. Although the list is called tutor, anyone, whether novice or expert, can answer questions. There are other Python communities focused on different areas, but the common element they share is that they tend to be friendly and open. That only makes sense since the language itself is so approachable for beginners.

Python Is Free and Open Source

Python is free. You can install it on your computer and never pay a penny. But Python's license lets you do much more than that. You can copy or modify Python. You can even resell Python if you want (but don't quit your day job just yet). Embracing open-source ideals like this is part of what makes Python so popular and successful.
