Scepticism has been the driving force in the development of Greco-Roman culture in the past, and the impetus for far-reaching scientific achievements and philosophical investigation. Early Jewish culture, in contrast, avoided creating consistent representations of its philosophical doctrines. Sceptical notions can nevertheless be found in some early Jewish literature such as the Book of Ecclesiastes. One encounters there expressions of doubt with respect to Divine justice or even Divine involvement in earthly affairs. During the first centuries of the common era, however, Jewish thought, as reflected in rabbinic works, was engaged in persistent intellectual activity devoted to the laws, norms, regulations, exegesis and other traditional areas of Jewish religious knowledge. An effort to detect sceptical ideas in ancient Judaism, therefore, requires a closer analysis of this literary heritage and its cultural context.
This volume of collected essays seeks to tackle the question of scepticism in an Early Jewish context, including Ecclesiastes and other Jewish Second Temple works, rabbinic midrashic and talmudic literature, and reflections of Jewish thought in early Christian and patristic writings.

F6F Hellcat in Detail & Scale is a detailed study of one of the most successful fighter aircraft designs to see combat during the Second World War. Historical text has been written for each variant of the Hellcat. The Hellcat Details chapter has been greatly expanded using new color photos almost exclusively. Additionally, many new vintage color and black and white photos have been added to better tell the Hellcat's story. But one feature, the fascinating and informative interview with Captain David McCampbell, remains in this new edition. Finally, the Modelers Section has been updated to include reviews of all of the kits that are available as of this writing (March 2020).
The book begins with a comprehensive developmental and operational history of the Hellcat and follows that with an all-inclusive chapter on the various Hellcat variants. Every variant of the Hellcat is covered, including the XF6F-1/-2/-4/-6 prototypes and the F6F-3/-3E/-3N and F6F-5/-5E/-5N operational variants. These are followed up with sections on the use of the Hellcat as the aircraft of choice used in the very first and early exhibitions put on by what would become the U. S. Navy Blue Angels precision flight demonstration team. The use of the Hellcat in the drone and drone controller roles, both in combat and in peace time is covered next, as is a survey of its use in foreign service by the United Kingdom, France, and Uruguay. Next, is a reprise of a favorite element of the earlier versions of this book, the interview with David McCampbell, the Navy's all-time leading ace, where he discussed the Hellcat, his own experiences, and the markings of his personal aircraft.
A comprehensive chapter on Hellcat details, long the hallmark of the Detail & Scale brand, follows. This chapter contains eight sections covering the cockpit, windscreen and canopy, fuselage, wing, landing gear, tail, engine, and armament and external stores details. This volume examines Ibero-American as well as Slavic literatures of the 21st century and studies how historical imaginaries in family narratives are functionalized for both individual and collective and (post-)national identities.
The analysis proceeds along three conceptual axes. What these narratives have in common is that they construct specific constellations of the historical imagination and of family, whereby 'family' is here conceived not so much as an organic micro-unity, but rather as changing, multiple relations between individual members, godparents, first- and second-degree relatives, non-blood-related family members, present and absent members, adopted children, etc. Furthermore, these novels are often grounded in trans-generational memories. They are written by members of a generation that, as a rule, did not directly experience these historical events. It is also significant that these narratives are no longer conceived as representing national identities, but paradigmatically speak for a collective that defines itself in regional, ethnic, religious or ideological terms. It seems, therefore, that these narratives of family constellations are in need of more flexible typological rubrics and interpretive frameworks.
Intended as a sustained comparative study of these family narratives, this volume is a contribution in understanding how historical caesura, experiences, and their literary representation work on the self-understanding of the present.

* Eugene James Bullard - the last of the three legionnaires and a 19-year-old entertainer and boxer from Columbus, Georgia. His father was born a slave, his mother was Creek Indian. Although wounded at Verdun and invalided out of the French Army, Bullard became the world's first black aviator. After the war he settled in Paris and ran a bar in Montmartre before going to war for France again in 1940.
The three men represent different pillars of the American soul, and their lives and dreams symbolize the story of how America became modern and remind us of the strong historic ties between France and America.
