Direct Access of CAD Geometry
Patran enables access to geometry from leading CAD systems for creating finite element models. Support for many industry-standard geometry exchange formats is also provided. An option is also available for direct import from and export into Parasolid format supported by several CAD systems. All finite elements, loads, boundary conditions, and material properties can be associated to the geometry.

Advanced Geometry Creation, Editing and Feature Recognition
Patran contains an advanced set of geometry creation tools in addition to the direct CAD access capabilities for generating finite element model geometry.
Patran also has a sophisticated feature recognition capability that allows users to delete or edit holes, fillets, and chamfers. For 3D solid geometry, existing meshes and loads will be automatically re-applied to the model after a change is made to the geometry.

Support for Multiple FEA Solvers
Patran is tailored to support both MSC Nastran and MD Nastran to enable the use of common finite element models and perform advanced engineering analysis and enhance designs using Nastran's Design Optimization and Topology Optimization capabilities.

In addition to MSC Nastran, Patran also supports the other solvers developed by MSC (Marc, Dytran, and MSC Sinda) and also solvers like Abaqus, Ansys, LS-Dyna and Pamcrash, enabling you to stay in a single graphical user environment even if you have to use multiple solvers for various analyses.

Post-processing and Reporting Tools for Easy Results Evaluation
Patran displays results for structural, thermal, fatigue, fluid, magnetic analyses, or in relation to any other application where the resultant values are associated with their respective finite elements or nodes. Imaging encompasses the complete graphics capability found within the Patran product, including graphic shading and visual verification prior to analysis. Patran Command Language (PCL) is the programming language at the heart of Patran. Major areas of focus in this release include the following:

Group Expand
Group expand gives the users the ability to create a group by expansion (or expand and existing group) based on associativity of the supplied entities has been implemented under the Group application.

The following features are available:

Group/Create/Expand/Single - this feature allows you to select a set of entities graphically and create a single group by taking the selected entities and expanding them based on the associativity with adjacent or connected entities until no more associativity is detected.

Group/Create/Expand/Multiple - this feature allows you to select a set of entities graphically and creates multiple groups by extracting a single entity from the list and expanding it until no more associativity is found, thus creating the first group.

Group/Expand - this feature takes an existing group and expands the list of entities in the group based on associativity until no more associativity is found. This feature is the same as Group/Create/Expand/Single where the list of entities comes from the Group itself and not a list of supplied entities.

Nastran Free and Exponential Format
In addition to the precision control from the previous section, the Translation Parameters form now also allows for specification of free format for the Nastran input file. This means that fields in the input deck can be separated by commas. The entire, fixed, large and/or small fields can be separated by commas or the spacing can be condensed so that there are no blank spaces between fields.

Bolt Modeling Enhancements
A manual method for creating bolt pre-load definition has been implemented. Previously bolt definitions could be automatically created using one of a number of methods, including a geometric method that automatically determines the bolt axis and splits the mesh into a top and bottom bolt portions that are connected via an Overclosure MPC to which the pre-load is applied. A vectorial method similar to the Geometric method is also available where the bolt axial direction is specified by the user. Also, elemental (1D, 2D, and 3D) methods are available where the users specify the actual location of the bolt mesh split.

Performance Improvement In Patran 2019 Feature Pack 1:
The Nastran bdf import performance has been im-proved by up to 50% on Windows operating system.Decks having thermal cards (convection, radiation etc) can now easily be imported. These either could not be imported earlier or were taking much time in the import.Automatic creation/display and export of contact body and body pair to MSC Nastran input files has been significantly improved.

Encoded IDs support for Contact Bodies and Contact Pairs
The Numbering Options feature 'IDs Encoded in Names' is now also supported for contact bodies and contact pairs. With this, you can have control over the IDs in the MSC Nastran input file to debug Nastranjob similar to other LBCs.

CFturbo is made to interactively design radial, mixed-flow and axial turbomachinery: pumps, ventilators, compressors, turbines. The software is easy to use and does enable quick generation and variation of impeller, stator and volute geometries. Several models can be displayed, compared and modified simultaneously.

It contains numerous approximation functions that may be customized by the user in order to implement user specific knowledge into the CFturbo-based design process. In spite of the creation of semiautomatic proposals, fundamental experiences in turbomachinery design are helpful but not necessary. An experienced turbomachinery design engineer should be able to design new high-quality impellers and volutes more easily and quickly.

In this video we'll be demonstrating the aerodynamic design of an axial, contra-rotating fan, including a CFD-simulation.

Fixed issues of FluxMotor 2019.1.1
Induction machines with skewed topologies - Motor Factory - Test Environment
- Very often, the results of computations may be wrong when a skewed topology is considered for the squirrel cage or for the slot (ref.: FXM-12398).

The visible signs of this problem were mainly the following ones:
. Anomalies on the shape of the generated curves versus slip (or speed) like torque-slip curve
for instance
. The results got with the test "Working point / Sine Wave / U, f, N" are not consistent with
those got with the test "Performance mapping / Sine Wave/ T(Slip)"
Induction machines - Motor Factory - Design and Test Environment
- End-ring impedance computations using the user mode fails (ref.: FXM-12399).

- The rounding value for the slip is not well considered. For instance, a slip equal to 2.33333 % cannot be considered. The nearest possible value is 2.334 %. This leads to a crash when the tests are run. (ref.: FXM-12368).
- CS and OCS temperature are not considered for computing end-ring inter-bar resistance in the DESIGN environment. The temperature of bars is considered instead (ref.: FXM-12451).

- OCS temperature is not considered for computing end-ring inter-bar resistance in the TEST environment. The Connection Side temperature is considered for both sides (ref.: FXM-12452).
- The computation of the average value of the end ring inductance doesn't consider the Opposite Connection Side component (ref.: FXM-12561).
Induction machines - Motor Factory - Export Environment
- The X-Factors of end ring resistance and inductance are not reported in the section ("Winding and cage") where test result values are displayed. To be noted that X-Factors are well considered in the computation (ref.: FXM-12550).
- The inductance X-Factor using for induction machine tests and exports is wrong. It is replaced by resistance X-Factor (ref.: FXM-12562).
