114970 LIN Scheduler is started before the session resulting in 500 ms of no response frames.
When XNET is configured to be a LIN master, the LIN scheduler appears to start before the outgoing XNET sessions are started. This results in the LIN master scheduler transmitting headers while the master's slave task is unprepared to transmit responses. As a result, the receiving LIN interface will instead detect "No Response" frames.
Workaround:
If you do not need to inline outgoing frames, you can deselect this option and the issue will not occur

1069833 Show frame IDs in hexadecimal format setting not fully applied
Enabling the setting "Show frame IDs in hexadecimal format" does not completely apply. The frame ID field updates properly to hexadecimal, but does not have a radix added.
Workaround:
There is currently no known workaround for this issue.

1095791 Deployment error -200077 with a module configured for HWTSP and Sample Rate less than 5 Hz
When enabling "Slow Background Conversion Mode" for a module and setting the Sample Rate to be less than 5 Hz, deployment will fail with error -200077.
Workaround:
Set the "Sample Rate" to either -1 or any value greater or equal than 5 Hz.

1163059 VeriStand crashes when moving Alarm Indicator in or out of Tab Control on UI Screen
Dragging an Alarm Indicator that is mapped to an alarm in the System Definition in or out of a Tab Control results in VeriStand crashing with a NullReferenceException.
Workaround:
Avoid dragging the alarm-mapped control into or out of a tab control.

1131292 Input Stream Read Time property introduces jitter to the PCL
The Input Stream Read Time property applies to the Raw Frame Datalogging settings for an XNET configuration in VeriStand, however, it also can considerably affect the HP Loop Duration even when no raw-frame logging is enabled.
Workaround:
Un-inlining the incoming frames. If that is not possible, add a transceiver state channel to all ports with incoming frames, and map the sleep channel to a channel that remains 0.

SystemVerilog Defects Repaired in 2020.4
- QSIM-64132 - Vlog sometimes gave incorrect errors like:
- ** Error: while parsing file test.sv(50): Failed to find the name 'get_type' in scope 'tpkg'
- For names like 'pkg::typename::get_type() where "typename" is a typedef name resolving to a class.
- QSIM-64922 - Vlog reported the error:
- ** Error: test.sv(7) Illegal reference to an interface type C::Intf in implements clause.
- In cases where "C" was a parameterized class type and 'Intf" was a typedef name referenceing an interface class.
VHDL Defects Repaired in 2020.4
- QSIM-65962 - During compilation with the -autoorder and -quiet switches, if semantic errors were encountered during the refresh phase, the errors would not be printed. This behavior is incorrect, and now all errors are printed, though other compilation logging messages are suppressed.
- QSIM-66278 - Large data structures that take over 2Gbytes of space would crash if default initialization is used. For this to happen the default value for all fields in the data structure must be 0 or NULL. Explicitly initializing the object will work around the issue.
- QSIM-65639 - The design.bin could have incorrect bounds on signals. This occurs if the signal bounds depend on functions calls. An these functions use the std.textio.

Have fun in the Random Mode
The Random Mode is exclusive to Chess King, in which you can choose what advantage you want to start the game with and the number of pieces you want to have on the board. For example suppose you want to start with an advantage of +6 (the equivalent of 6 pawns advantage), Chess King will randomly select a starting position with the characteristics you decide and then you will play that position against Houdini 2 for Chess King at the highest level. Anybody should win with such a crushing starting advantage, but you'll see it's not that easy!

Setup any position
You can set up any position you like and then analyze it or even play it.

Search in the GigaKing Database
Look out for games of your favorite players in the GigaKing database. For example a search for Magnus Carlsen will give more than 2,000 games including all the games he played in official tournaments and many of his published exhibition matches and simultaneous exhibitions.

Learn with the Puzzle Mode
You will learn with the puzzle mode, with hundreds of exercises from beginner level until Grandmaster level. Chess King 21 will congratulate you for your success and tell you where you went wrong.

Huge Opening Tree
In the Analysis pane at the beginning of the game, either while analyzing some master game or when entering your own games in your own games database, you can follow the opening tree move by move to see what moves have been played in the whole history of chess and how much success they have had. It's now easy to study a whole opening just by browsing opening moves, selecting lines, watching games of interest, and learning the ideas behind the opening moves.

Whole Game Evaluation graph and Engine Analysis
In the Analysis Pane after the opening stage one sees the game notation and comments, the whole game evaluation graph and below the best lines calculated by the engine. In this position below black could have taken the advantage by taking the pawn on e5, giving an evaluation of -0.86 (Black would have an advantage of close to 1 pawn equivalent), and instead played a bad move a4, which gave an evaluation of +0.49, which means white is up the equivalent of 1/2 pawn. With Chess King 21 you will know the best moves in each position.

Terrain

Modeling
- Copy Template tool has been enhanced to allow copying Corridor templates from one corridor to another.
- Added ability to calculate multiple substratum layers with earthwork quantification with the Create Cut Fill Tool.
- Template Library file (*.itl) now prompts user for checkout from ProjectWise if available. If the file is already checked out, one can enter the template library and perform a Save As.
- Properties and quick properties display the Volume Option of a mesh for quick identification.
- Corridor Modeling tools that require a corridor to be selected now allows the picking of the corridor in the 3D model by selecting a corridors mesh or 3d linear geometry.
- The corridor Clipping Reference object now identifies if the clip is 2D or 3D clip.
- Create Closed Mesh tool allows the creation of a mesh from corridors, linear templates, terrain models, and meshes.

Drainage and Utilities
- A new Critical Storm Analysis Wizard gives the ability to easily run a number of storm events on a system, and identifies the worst-case storm for every conduit or node - without having to create the scenarios first. This makes it much easier to test a system that has been designed using the Rational method.
- A series of nodes can now be placed at an interval along a linear element.
- Place Node now lets you state that the elevation reference is for the node invert, instead of the cover or ground. This is useful when placing endwalls in a ditch.
- Place Node now lets you extract an irregular cross section from the elevation reference.
- Place Node now lets you place a tap node in a conduit.
- Added the OpenFlows batch pipe split functionality, that automatically inserts nodes in conduits if they are within an offset tolerance.
- An option has been added to list all conduits that are missing a start or stop node.
- Properties that have civil rules are now displayed in Utility Properties as read only.
- Properties for the largest and smallest conduits connected to a drainage node have been added.

- Loading of reference files containing drainage and utilities database occurs automatically when the active file also contains a database. This will allow the exposure of reference drainage and utilities properties and the ability to annotate them across reference files.
- ModelBuilder now supports the Node Rotation property when importing and exporting data. This has caused a change to the way that the Node Rotation value is set. If you have existing design files containing nodes that use a relative rotation, the value needs to be reset before you compute the hydraulics and hydrology. To do this, select each node, and use its manipulator to change the value - either very slightly, or change it, then change it back.

The Simcenter development team is pleased to announce the availability of Simcenter MAGNET 2020.2. This release added new features and important enhancements to share. Firstly, there's the leveraging of new high performance computing capabilities. With it, simulations have gone from days to just hours or minutes to finish solving. Secondly, calculating magnetostrictive forces (which cause that hummmmmmm you hear around power transformers) has been added. Finally, improving the modeling capabilities of permanent magnets allow them to be defined as strong or weak. Let's dive deeper into all of this new stuff:


Electromagnetic simulations on a HPC cluster

Building simulation into the design process requires that the desired information is available when needed. Waiting for data is not always an option. And when it arrives too late, it can lead to costly and avoidable redesigns or failures.

Every type of simulation has its own rhyme and reason for being computationally intensive, which increases the solution latency. To clarify, in the realm of low frequency electromagnetics simulations, some common causes include:

- Large and highly detailed models, which require fine meshes. For example, power transformers or complex electromechanical systems
- Fault conditions
- Rotor eccentricity
- Magnetic levitation or arbitrary motion
- Force calculations for NVH analysis

Simcenter MAGNET has added new high performance computing capabilities (HPC) so that simulations can run across multiple processors on a cluster, which dramatically speeds up the simulation time compared to a single computer.

In short, this means low frequency electromagnetic simulation results are available in hours instead of weeks. Consequently, this speed up in solution time means you can discover insights earlier and bring electromagnetics into your Simcenter toolset of simulation driven design.


Electromagnetic simulations are time intensive. With Simcenter MAGNET 2020.2, simulations can run on HPC clusters. In this example, a large 3D electric motor transient with motion simulation went from over 5 days to just over 5 hours to complete, achieving over a 25x speed up .

Magnetostriction with Simcenter MAGNET 2020.2

Magnetostriction is challenging to model. Often it is a parasitic phenomenon that needs to be limited or eliminated. For instance, it causes vibrations and acoustic noise that is undesirable or adversely impacts the device performance.

So, what's all the buzz about? Magnetostrictive forces, caused by a magnetic materials change in shape as a response to the magnetization process or being exposed to a fluctuating magnetic field, can cause stresses and strains in that material. Consequently, these may lead to material extension and contraction, which causes vibration and noise. Simcenter MAGNET 2020.2 includes new magnetostrictive force and field calculations.

New additions include calculation of force fields in 2D and 3D, Time-Harmonic and Transient (with and without Motion) of magnetostriction:

- Nodal Force
- Force Density
- Discontinuity Force Density

For example, let's examine a power transformer. The magnetostrictive properties of the steel sheets in the core will cause it to expand and contract as the magnetic field oscillates. This change in shape is invisible to the eye, however causes vibrations that manifest as sound. The design generally fixes the amount of noise, which makes simulation and accurate prediction of these forces critical. Organizations like American National Standards Institute (ANSI) have standards regarding the sound level that a power transformer can produce.

In other devices, such as sensors and actuators, the effect is leveraged to carry out their desired operation.

Enhancements to demagnetization and loss calculations

Extending the work done in Simcenter MAGNET 2020.1, enhancements have been made to the modeling capabilities of permanent magnets with regards to their irreversible demagnetization behavior. Users may now define permanent magnets as strong or weak. The reclassification affects the modeling methods used which have been recently refined based on experimental measurements.

Improved hysteresis loss calculations have been added for time harmonic solvers. This extends the ability to analyze transformers and induction machines accurately and rapidly.

Simcenter MAGNET 2D/3D is a powerful simulation software for performance prediction of motors, generators, sensors, transformers, actuators, solenoids, or any component with permanent magnets or coils. With our efficient-to-use and accurate software, you can optimize, design, and analyze simple to complex electromagnetic and electromechanical devices.

Simcenter MAGNET virtual prototyping is both cost and time efficient. Parametric and optimization studies allow the exploration of multiple configurations, for performance improvements. The accurate replication of the operating and extreme conditions provides insight into the loss and temperature hotspots, permanent magnet demagnetization, unused material, and failure analysis through fault conditions.

- Reporting for tangent direction now indicates if it is the Forward (Ahead) or Backwards (Back) tangent.
- Rail Parameters have been added to Design File Settings.
- Regression line is now also used as slew line, reducing the clutter in the plan view.
- Fixed and information regression point types are added.
Terrain
- Import Topo tool allows the creation of terrain model from ESRI, USGS, and SRTM. Importing from ESRI service requires an ESRI account. (OpenX-Technology Preview)
Modeling
- Copy Template tool has been enhanced to allow copying Corridor templates from one corridor to another.
- Added ability to calculate multiple substratum layers with earthwork quantification with the Create Cut Fill Tool.
- Template Library file (*.itl) now prompts user for checkout from ProjectWise if available. If the file is already checked out, one can enter the template library and perform a Save As.
- Properties and quick properties display the Volume Option of a mesh for quick identification.
- Corridor Modeling tools that require a corridor to be selected now allows the picking of the corridor in the 3D model by selecting a corridors mesh or 3d linear geometry.
- The corridor Clipping Reference object now identifies if the clip is 2D or 3D clip.

You can define column order so the most important columns are immediately visible. International display format options allows you to adjust the output for your local needs. Listing can contain links to actual files and directories so you are able to put the listing on a web page with clickable contents.
HTML display style is fully customized - you can change background color, separate style for header, directory rows, odd and even file rows and for surrounding frame.
You can limit the files list by applying a filter for filename, date, size or attributes.
Directory Lister Pro can also be integrated into the context menu of Windows Explorer so you don't even need to open the application to generate listings.
Command line interface is supported for automated listings that can be run from Windows Task Scheduler.

Foundry has shipped Modo 14.2, the latest version of its 3D modelling, animation and rendering software, and the last of the three linked releases that form the Modo 14 Series.



New features last version include Rig Clay, a neat new system for posing characters by clicking directly on the mesh rather than rig controls; USD Export; and native support for Cryptomatte when rendering. Modo's Advanced Viewport, modelling and UV toolkits, and mPath renderer have all also been updated.

New Rig Clay system lets you pose characters directly by clicking and dragging on them
The most attention-grabbing feature in Modo 14.2 is Rig Clay, a new system for posing characters by clicking and dragging directly on their geometry, rather than on a control rig. It's an intuitive workflow, and one in vogue at the moment, also being supported in Rumba, Mercenaries Engineering's dedicated next-gen character animation software, which also shipped this week. In Modo, artists can designate parts of the surface of a character model as Command Regions. These can then be made to deform the mesh by assigning a mouse gesture and the Deformer it will trigger in Modo's Schematic view, as shown in the video above.
New USD exporter for VFX and animation pipelines
Support for the Universal Scene Description format - now becoming widely used in VFX and animation pipelines - has also been extended, with a USD exporter joining the USD importer added in Modo 14.1. It supports many of Modo's key features, including meshes, instances, replicators, group locators, joint-based animation, cameras, and the Principled material type. Non-geometry-based lights can be exported, but not Portal or Mesh lights; and character rigs may need restructuring before animations work correctly in other software.

Native Cryptomatte support and option to pause and resume renders in mPath
Modo also now natively supports Cryptomatte, the open-source ID matte generation system widely used in VFX pipelines, and supported in many other renderers. The software's new mPath render engine can also now save and resume renders in progress, and supports stencil mapping to speed up renders of objects like leaves that use transparent regions in textures.


Incremental updates to the modelling and UV tools and the Advanced Viewport
Modo's other toolsets get incremental updates, with the direct modelling tools seeing more changes to the new Edge Chamfer tool added in Modo 13.2 and updated in each subsequent release. The embossing and procedural vertex map generation features added in Modo 14.0 also get updates. Other changes include a new preset for the Advanced Viewport for retopology work, and better support for real world scale in the UV tools. There are also some significant performance improvements: selecting components is now "up to 200% faster", and Boolean operations "as high as 38,000% faster" with "dense polygons and complex shapes".
