Extended coverage of CERT C
The static analysis tool C-STAT has extended its coverage of the SEI CERT C Coding Standard. The SEI CERT C Coding Standard's goal is to provide rules for developing safe, reliable and secure systems in the C programming language, with support for C11 constructs. C-STAT covers all rules in the different CERT C sections listed at the CERT C wiki as of January 2020, with the exception of the API, CON, POS and WIN sections which are not applicable to our products, yielding a total of 90 covered rules.
Link analysis trace information
The link analysis messages now display trace information when relevant. For checks looking for conflicting symbol names, all conflicting declarations are now listed in the trace information instead of each pair of conflicts being described in a separate message. This might lead to fewer reported messages for the same number of found issues.

The Arnoldrenderer product team is pleased to announce the availability of Arnold (or KtoA) 3.1.0 for Katana. This release introduces Arnold 6.1.0.0 and is a feature release bringing USD plugins for the Hydra viewport, Arnold material transfer via an included build of KatanaUsdPlugins, a brand new post-processing framework (imagers), support for nested dielectrics, much improved progressive and adaptive sampling, on-demand texture loading on GPU, and a variety of enhancements and fixes.


Enhancements

Imagers: We're introducing a brand new framework to apply post-processing effects such as color correction, vignetting, or tone mapping. A new type of post-processing nodes called imagers operate on pixels before the output driver. Imagers can be chained. The initial set of imagers consists of:

. imager_exposure
. imager_color_correct
. imager_lens_effects
. imager_white_balance
. imager_tonemap

Imagers work both in batch and interactive contexts. While imager parameters can change interactively during rendering, adding a new imager currently requires the render to be restarted, so it's a good idea to add the ones you will need to adjust at the beginning of an interactive session. We are looking at removing this limitation in a subsequent release. (core#8368, core#9716, core#9723, core#9724, core#9867, core#9868, core#9869, core#9938).


Nested dielectrics: Physically-correct reflection and refraction of rays in scenes with adjacent dielectrics, such as liquids in glass vessels, has been implemented by resolving overlapping, i.e. "nested", dielectrics via a priority system. This allows for more realistic renders of scenes such as glass containers with liquid contents and bubbles, correctly accounting for the change in the index of refraction as rays refract through the transparent media. The new dielectric_priority parameter on the standard_surface shader assigns a priority to the internal dielectric medium of the closed transparent object the shader is assigned to. These priorities specify that in an area of overlap of two transparent objects, only the highest priority dielectric medium exists (see the schematic glass of water below). The priority is simply a signed integer (default 0), which can be increased or decreased as needed to define the dielectric medium in the overlap areas. If priorities are made equal, then media are effectively blended in the overlap. The effect can be disabled globally with options.dielectric_priorities (Nested Dielectrics in the Advanced tab of the render settings) in case you need to revert to the legacy mode, which does not correctly compute the refractions. (core#6023)

Improved progressive and adaptive sampling: Better sampling now results in much faster noise convergence, especially with adaptive sampling enabled. (core#9941)


Improved performance on Windows: Arnold now runs on average 7-8% faster overall on Windows. (core#5481, core#9876, core#9975)
Improved IPR interactivity: IPR interactivity on both CPU and GPU, especially when moving the camera in a scene with many nodes (thousands to millions of meshes, ginstances, lights, shaders, etc.), is improved. For instance, a scene with 24,433 ginstances and simple shading went from 8 fps to 14 fps on the CPU and about 3 fps to 20 fps on the GPU. (core#8662, core#9918, core#10027, core#10029)
Improved performance in Toon on Windows: The contour_filter used for toon rendering should now be faster and scale better especially on Windows, with up to 3x speedups on AMD Threadripper 2 and up to 4x speedups on AMD Threadripper 3 CPUs. (core#7844)
Toon AOV prefix : The toon shader has a new optional aov_prefix that will be prepended to the toon AOVs' names. For instance, if aov_prefix is "toon_", the toon diffuse AOV will be written out to "toon_diffuse". This can be used when you need to access both the toon AOVs and the core's LPE AOVs. (core#9823)
Improved soft creases in adaptive subdivision: Normals for soft creases follow the geometry closer for low iterations. (core#9971)

AA seed now included in EXR metadata: The AA seed of a render is now also included in EXR metadata. (core#9895)
Improved support for MaterialX: Material nodes are now supported, shader nodes and node graph outputs can be connected to material node inputs. Node definitions implemented as node graphs can contain both Arnold native shaders and MaterialX standard library shaders. This is useful to build reusable and portable material groups and definitions, for example by using standard_surface with MaterialX patterns. The environment variable ARNOLD_MATERIALX_NODE_DEFINITIONS can now point to directories and load multiple node definitions (see here) (core#9204, core#9618, core#9926)
KatanaUsdPlugins: A custom build of UsdIn is included with KtoA that is a drop-in replacement for the UsdIn included in Katana. It includes several changes that are to improve the use of UsdIn with KtoA. (ktoa#523)
UsdIn Material Transfer: Arnold materials exported from Solaris or using MtoA's USD export are correctly imported to the scenegraph. (ktoa#488)
Apps & Features Entry: The KtoA entry in Apps & Features now has a more descriptive name. (#458)
Arnold-USD: The Arnold Render Delegate and Node Registry plugin is now included with KtoA. This allows the use of the Render Delegate in the Katana Hydra Viewport. (#494)
Tooltip Coverage: Tooltips are correctly set for all the shader parameters. (#203)
Arnold SDK: The Arnold SDK is now included within the KtoA installation to simplify building shaders, procedurals, and other plugins for the Arnold that KtoA is using. (#527)

GPU Enhancements

Improved on-demand loading of textures: The GPU renderer can now partially load textures which results in important GPU memory savings when using tiled and mipmapped textures, such as from .tx textures. In a typical scene, the amount of memory needed for textures could be reduced to be up to 5x smaller. A recent driver is needed for this feature (core#9984).


Initial support for light linking: Initial support has been added for light linking. Currently, there is a limitation that light linking is not supported on volumes. (core#9890)
Support light AOV groups: Adding light AOV groups in LPEs is now supported on the GPU. (core#9882)
Improved OSL JIT compilation performance: OSL JIT compilation performance has been improved, meaning faster time to first pixel and improved interactivity when using OSL shaders. The improvement averaged 6.3x faster during testing. (core#10004)
Improved support for min pixel width and thin-walled sampling: We have improved compatibility with the CPU renderer for min pixel width on the GPU and thin-walled sampling on zero roughness surfaces. (core#9291)
Partial GPU IPR output: Like on the CPU, when the FPS goes below a certain threshold (5fps by default), instead of not displaying anything, the GPU will at least display the pixels that have finished rendering. Since GPU currently renders pixels in a top to bottom ordering, this will result in the top part of the image being updated while the lower part becomes stale. (core#10027)
OptiX cache location change: The Optix cache directory used to be of the form: arnold-<ARNOLD_VERSION>_driver-<DRIVER_VERSION>. Now it is simply arnold. This means the same cache will be used across driver and Arnold versions. Upgrading to a new version will still likely cause a lengthy JIT/cache pre-population, but it will reduce disk usage as old versions will not stay around-consuming disk space. (core#9239).

USD enhancements

Light Shaping: The procedural now supports the UsdLuxShapingAPI, allowing the use of spot and IES lights (usd#344).
UsdTransform2d: The render delegate now supports the UsdTransform2d preview shader (usd#516).
Per-face material assignments: The render delegate now supports per-face material assignments (usd#29).
Render Stats: The Render Delegate now returns render stats via GetRenderStats. For now, this is used to show render progress in Solaris (usd#537).
Schema for custom procedurals: The schemas now include ArnoldCustomProcedural for describing custom procedurals (usd#487).
Schema updates: Schemas now support cameras, render settings, and new output types (usd#500).
Parent Scope: There is a new flag to specify a custom root for all exported prims (usd#292).
ST for Texture Coordinates: Texture coordinates are now written as primvars:st to match the USD convention (usd#542).

Incompatible changes

Correct refractions with nested dielectrics: Refraction through adjacent transparent media now looks more physically correct thanks to nested dielectrics resulting in a look change. If you need to revert to the legacy unphysical behavior for compatibility reasons, you can disable nested dielectrics globally by setting options.dielectric_priorities to False.
mix_shader add for transparency: Previously, the add mode of the mix_shader also added the transparency closures, which means that effects such as min pixel width would be double-counted, leading to objects disappearing. Now, we will add only non-transparency closures, while we pass through the max of the transparency closures. The old behavior can still be obtained by setting add_transparency to true (core#9952).

Skipped node updates: In order to improve IPR interactivity, we skip the per-frame node update if we believe that node has not changed. If our internal heuristics for detecting node changes is wrong and node_update was supposed to be called, you can set the force_update metadata on your node:

General

Seed Files
Creating new models has become easier with the introduction of 'Seed Files'. Essentially allowing the starting point of a new model to be that provided by an existing model. This could easily be a baseline datafile that contains commonly used profiles and materials, load cases and combinations, grid files or more. Or simply taking an existing model as the starting point for creating an alternative without fear of modifying the original data.

Physical Modelling

Automatic Combination Generator
As models become larger with a greater collections of separate load cases, determining the collection of load combinations can be daunting. However by categorising the primary load cases, the new Automatic Load Combination Generator can follow the rules given in a design specification. Similar to the method that is currently available in the Analytical Workflow, a new tool has now been provided for creating combinations in the Physical Workflow.
With the ability to create your own rules including how collections of a given load category should be considered either separately, combined together, or using a complex matrix of when they exist together, then you realise that you have a powerful tool at the click of a button that can create dozens of considered combinations with ease.


Notional Loading
The loading in Physical Models has been expanded to include the automatic generation of Notional Load effects from the primary load cases when the combination method has been specified as REPEAT loading. This ensures that the lateral effect of the vertical loads in the combination be accounted for automatically.


Control/Dependant nodal relationships
There are many occasions when the structural effects of components cannot easily be modelled, but their stiffening effects need to be accounted for. This can be achieved by selecting the node points on the model that are connected though a stiffness relationship and setting the node relationship and determining which is the Control node. The relationship can limit the degrees of freedom that are combined so that effects such as wall panels and slabs can be modelled on a frame without having to model the features directly.


Consolidation of databases
Since its release, STAAD.Pro CE has supported different types of profile database which has led in the past to some models not resolving into the ideal analytical data model. Thus with this release, the Physical Model workflow has been revised to use the same profile database as the analytical Model. This has been addressed by consolidating the two modelling environments to operate using the same single database platform to provide a more robust analytical decomposition of the physical model. Additionally, when identifying the profiles for the catalog now, the geometric details can be viewed for the selected shape:-


As an added benefit, Physical Models can now leverage the benefits of using external user provided tables (UPTs).

New Wind Loading to ASCE 2016
Added to the collection of wind loading generators is the ASCE 7 2016. This routine can be used in creating wind loading on both the analytical and physical models.


Workflows

New Workflow for Chinese Steel Design
With the increase in analysis and design of models with STAAD.Pro in China using the SSDD application, a new workflow has been added to the program to provide a more efficient way to initiate this regional design application.


Note that the workflows can be easily configure to add or remove unwanted workflows from the Configurations dialog in the backstage:-


User Tables with Steel AutoDrafter (*)
The scope of models that can be detailed using Steel AutoDrafter has been extended beyond profiles picked from standard tables, but now include those defined in User Tables.


Updated Steel Connection Design (***)
The recently published v13.3 version of RAM Connection has now been implemented in STAAD.Pro which includes supports the use of channel sections as beams with the AISC/CSA/AS/NZS/EN and IS codes


Design Codes

Russian Steel Design
The Russian steel design SP16 13300:2017 is now provided as a design option for a wide range of steel profiles and improves the method for accounting for the slenderness for members under compression and tension over that provided in earlier implementations of the Russian steel code.

Indian Steel Design Update
The Indian steel design code IS 800:2007 has been updated to provide an option to account for the seismic effects on members as outlined in section 12 of the code.

Technical Preview

Design Review
The first offering using an analytical digital twin to assist the engineers coordinate and communicate effectively using the physical model for simple, but structured discussions which can involve the entire design team.


Cloud Analysis
Leverage the use of having the STAAD model in a Connected Project and launch an analysis using one of the various engine versions provided in the cloud.


By using the cloud analysis, solutions and scenarios are created and can use the Optioneering Centre where various models can be compared using key performance indicators to determine an optimum arrangement.

(Currently this feature is only provided for models created from the Analytical workflow)

Additional Modules

RCDC (**)
The Advanced Concrete Design application, RCDC, has been updated to v9.4 which includes:-

- Improved reading of load combination data from the STAAD.Pro model
- Additional validation on bar sizes for IS and ACI column and beam designs to meet dimension requirements

The following hardware requirements are suggested minimums. Systems with increased capacity provide enhanced performance.

Processor Intel Pentium or AMD processor 3.0 GHz or greater.
Memory 1 GB minimum, 2 GB recommended (4GB for STAAD.Pro Advanced). More memory almost always improves performance, particularly when working with larger models. 4 GB (8 GB for STAAD.Pro Advancd) or more can help speed up solutions for very large complex models with large numbers of load cases.
Video Graphics card supported by OpenGL. See the graphics card manufacturer for latest information on graphics drivers. 256 MB of video RAM or higher is recommended. If insufficient video RAM or no graphics card supported by OpenGL can be found, the application will attempt to use software emulation. For optimal performance, graphics display color depth should be set to 24-bit or higher. When using a color depth setting of 16-bit, some inconsistencies will be noted.
Screen Resolution A minimum screen resolution of 1280x1024 is required, but higher is recommended.

Bentley does not support its software running on Microsoft operating systems versions that Microsoft has "retired".

Additional RAM, disk space, and video memory will enhance the performance of STAAD.Pro.

The minimum amount of physical + virtual memory required by the program is over 600MB. You may need to ensure that adequate amounts of virtual memory are available and that parameters such as paging file sizes should be large enough or span over multiple drives if the free space on any one drive runs low.

Another issue to keep in mind is the location of the TEMP parameter as in the SET TEMP environment variable in Windows. While performing calculations, depending on the structure size, the program may create very large scratch files which are placed in the folder location associated with the TEMP parameter. You may want to point the SET TEMP variable to a folder on a drive that has disk space sufficiently large to accommodate the requirements for large size structures.

You should have a basic familiarity with Microsoft Windows systems in order to use the software.

All-About-PDF can take multiple PDF files and merge them into a single file. You can also go the other way by taking a single PDF file and splitting it into multiple documents. This is done by either specifying multiple page ranges to split by or you can simply tell the application to split the PDF every N pages (for example, you can split a PDF from pages 1 to 5 and 6-10 or just every 3 pages).

You can add Owner and User passwords to your PDF using 256-bit encryption. With an Owner password set on your PDF, you can specify user permission such as:
