You now have additional control when running a centerline simulation at slow speed. You can use the Stop button or the Escape key to stop the simulation in the middle of a tool-move. You can also use the view controls to rotate or zoom during the tool-move. Additionally, you can use other controls to pause, step forward or backward, or resume with playing the simulation. Simulation
- Fixed an issue in which machine simulation was incorrect for a bar-fed mill with a B rotation of the sub-spindle. FCAM-4722
- Fixed an issue in which centerline simulation showed an insert drill with an incorrect programming point when assigned to a slot in the lower turret. FCAM-4641
- Fixed an issue in which a very poor polygonalization of a boring bar was sometimes displayed when it used a custom solid holder. FCAM-4781

- Updated to ATF version 9.2. FCAM-4760
- Fixed an issue that could cause FeatureCAM to close unexpectedly when importing certain IGES files created by CATIA. FCAM-4660

Tool database
- Fixed an issue in which a tool created from a curve and a solid could not be opened when using an SQL database. FCAM-4497
- Fixed an issue in which selecting specific tools when using an SQL database could cause FeatureCAM to close unexpectedly. FCAM-4731
- SPECIAL NOTE: In the 2018 release of FeatureCAM there was an option for setting the tool database to the "Autodesk Tool Data Service". This option was not available in the 2019 and 2020 releases of FeatureCAM, but if you had enabled it in the 2018 version, then the service still functioned. In a future update during the 2021 release, this compatibility will be disabled. If you are currently using "Autodesk Tool Data Service", please switch to one of the other tool database options. If you are using this option, it will be listed in the File > Database page of the Options dialog.

What's new in PowerMill 2021 - Date: May 13, 2020

Speed improvements
There are general speed improvements to help reduce programming time.
- When calculating toolpaths, there are no longer any restrictions on the number of cores that can be used in a single processor.
- For Area Clearance and Flat Finishing toolpaths, the calculation of flat areas on models is now faster.
- The calculation of toolpaths where Automatic Collision Avoidance is selected is now faster.
- The calculation of On Surface links in toolpaths is now faster.
- The time it takes to calculate 3D Area Clearance toolpaths is reduced, sometimes by up to 30%. The exact reduction varies depending on your machining job and the machine tool you use.
- The calculation of toolpaths that use a stock model rest boundary is now faster.
- The calculation of some optimised Raster Finishing toolpaths has been made more efficient.
Steep and Shallow Finishing improvements
- The quality of the 3D Offset toolpath is improved for shallow areas when used on a model that has a surface in a collision thickness set.
Collision checking and avoidance improvements
- When using Automatic Collision Avoidance, the smoothness of the tool-axis motion is improved by adding extra points along the toolpaths.
Model filleting
- The calculation of the Fillet Corners option when the 3D style is selected is now faster.
- The units are now displayed for Corner Filleting Radius as TDU in the Explorer for toolpaths that have Fillet Corners selected.
Area clearance
- The Unsafe Segment Removal option no longer removes more segments of the toolpath than necessary to prevent non-centre cutting tools from encountering non-machinable material.
Additive Feature Construction improvements
- When creating a Feature Construction toolpath, you can now alternate the raster passes between layers. Previously, you could only rotate passes by a specified angle.
- The time it takes to calculate Feature Construction toolpaths with a Style of Profile is reduced.

Toolpaths
- A problem has been fixed that caused a Constant Z Finishing toolpath calculated with a form tool to gouge. PMILL-13198
- A problem has been fixed that could cause the verification of 5-axis toolpaths to proceed slowly. PMILL-13076
- Fixed an issue where too many along passes were created in a Corner Finishing toolpath. PMILL-13084
- Fixed an issue that meant Rotary Finishing toolpaths sometimes had small gaps. PMILL-12680
- Ensured Rotary Finishing toolpaths with a Y offset of zero remained 4-axis. PMILL-12756
- A problem within Drilling toolpaths that caused links constrained by distance to be calculated inconsistently has been fixed. PMILL-13164
- A problem has been fixed that caused a multi-axis Constant Z Finishing toolpath to be calculated incorrectly when using a barrel tool. PMILL-12037
- A problem has been fixed that could result in colliding moves when the Machine Maximum Stock option was enabled in Steep and Shallow Finishing toolpaths. PMILL-13351
- A problem has been fixed that could result in automatic collision avoidance failing to avoid collisions. PMILL-13541
Machine simulation
- Prevented ViewMill from depositing material during non-additive moves. PMILL-3498
- Prevented ViewMill from skipping sections of a toolpath when rapid cuts are not being checked. PMILL-3498
- If the models of a machine tool were imported as STL files, they are now exported as STL files. PMILL-5730
Toolpath export
- An arc at the very beginning of a toolpath that is set as rapid in PowerMill now uses the Skim Feed Rate when posting rather, than the Safe Feed Rate. PMILL-12538
General
- The splash screen now displays at an appropriate size when running on high-resolutions displays, for example, a 4K monitor running at 200% text size. PMILL-12950
- The SET NAMED PARAMETER command now works when editing ThicknessSetValue maps. PMILL-12511
- An issue has been fixed that caused PowerMill to close unexpectedly when pressing the ESC key while a macro is running. PMILL-10477
- Improved the error message displayed when a setup sheet fails to export because of the length of the file path. PMILL-12557
- All the tooltips for the Select Option File dialog are now translated. PMILL-9604
- The shortcut title for PowerMill Viewer now indicates the version. PMILL-12991
Customer error reporting (CER)
- Fixed an issue where PowerMill could close unexpectedly when creating rest area clearance toolpaths. This issue was identified by CER. PMILL-12699
- Fixed an issue where PowerMill could close unexpectedly when opening certain projects whilst the Explorer was in a specific state. This issue was reported via CER. PMILL-13330
- Fixed an issue where PowerMill could close unexpectedly whilst jogging the machine via a COM interface, testing for machine collisions. This issue was reported via CER. PMILL-13012
- Fixed an issue where PowerMill closes unexpectedly when it fails to open a TRACEFILE and displays an error message. This issue was reported via CER. PMILL-13220

Free Field Technologies, the Belgium arm of MSC Software that is now part of Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence, a global engineering software company, announced the Actran 2020 design and simulation software suite comprising new acoustic, vibro-acoustic and aero-acoustic technologies that enable manufacturers to build more accurate noise prediction models of their designs, with optimizations into their processes.


Aircraft operators face growing restrictions on noisy aircraft and more stringent International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) noise management regulations. Reducing noise has become a business priority due to landing fees, flight curfews, or fleet being excluded from some airports. This is driving aerospace innovation, with engine technology paramount for effective aircraft noise reduction.

At the intake, engine noise is dependent on both the axial flow through the turbo fan and the associated swirl, but the combined effect on noise propagation was historically challenging to model. Actran's aircraft engine noise prediction now automatically accounts for the mean flow swirl component in acoustic duct modes excitation, which avoids mismatches between nacelle inlet flow and boundary conditions. The more accurate simulation enables engineers to understand how design changes such as shortening the nacelle affect noise emissions so they can optimize the placement of acoustic treatments.

At the exhaust, simulating the indirect combustion noise of aircraft engines was rarely feasible due to the cost of computation. The Cumpsty and Marble compact model is now implemented in Actran, applying inexpensive modeling to assess indirect combustion noise in a turbomachine. Recently developed and validated against measurements together with Safran Helicopters Engines, the model enables manufacturers to predict the combustion noise emitted in engines.

The forthcoming ISO 360-1 standard reflects growing pressure to reduce automotive pass-by noise, with tyre noise expected to contribute 60% by 2024. A new dedicated noise assessment utility in Actran maps rotating tyre time domain vibrations from frequently used tools such as Abaqus onto a tyre-deformed mesh. This model is transposed into the frequency domain to predict tyre noise radiation in-situ so that acoustic mitigation solutions can be optimized accurately within a single acoustic engineering environment.
Decision making is also improved for Noise, Vibration, and Harshness (NVH) engineering workflows. Test results required by metrology and quality teams are now automatically produced for virtual tests in accordance with standard acoustic test procedures for power radiation and automotive pass-by noise measurements including ISO 3744, ISO 3745, SAE J1074 and IEC 61672-1.

Electric vehicles manufacturers can now effectively address interior noise from electric motors, which is very pronounced at mid and high frequencies using Actran SEA. Its meshless simulation engine simulates large vibro-acoustic systems based on existing (low frequency) finite element models in MSC Nastran. Acoustic engineers can now model a whole vehicle including multi-layer poro-elastic materials at mid to high frequencies and optimize the insulation, damping and absorption effects of acoustic treatments within weight and cost constraints.

Actran 2020 is designed to make model set-up and definition more efficient with a reorganized analysis tree, components and boundary conditions categories and a new layout and native unit conversion system offering further productivity enhancements. Actran 2020 is now available.

When you publish, other team members who don't have Revit can view and reference the models in BIM360.
Elliptical Walls - This new feature allows you to draw elliptical walls and curtain walls in Revit. The ellipse tool now appears in the draw panel for walls. Temporary dimensions and center marks are available with this new feature. Elliptical walls will behave simliary to how arc walls behave today. Easily switch walls created with this method to different wall types. Behaviors around wall joins, openings, and family hosting will function as expected.
New Structural Rebar Tools - There is a suite of new structural rebar tools available in Revit 2020 including improved rebar copy & move logic, multi-rebar annotation to concrete faces and free form rebar as well as rebar in model-in-place stairs.
Path To Travel Tool - The Path to Travel tool is used to determine the shortest distance between two points on a floor plan. The tool analyzes the geometry in the plan and goes around obstacles and through doors to optimize the route.
Improved "OR" in View Filters - This feature is an improved version of the OR filter functionality already existing in Revit. You are now able to choose a specific category for an OR filter and then choose a specific parameter. Previously only common parameters between categories were available for use in the dialogue when creating an OR filter.

MSC Software Corporation, a part of Hexagon, announced the new release of MSC Apex 2020, the company's award-winning Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) simulation platform.


Beam Model Import Improvements:
- Support multiple orientations with a single span during beam import. Prior versions of MSC Apex would import beams with variable orientations as one element per span. Now, a table is created for the span so it can be one span across multiple elements.
- Support variable offsets for beams during import Similar to the variable orientations mentioned above, if an imported span had offsets that varied non-uniformly between ends, prior versions of MSC Apex would remove this variation. Now the program retains the full offset profile as long as there are no ID changes for the bar elements.
- Improved beam orientation mapping. Prior versions would alter orientations after import and/or geometry association, and now they are mapped more consistently.
Geometry From Mesh Improvements:
- Support mesh with faceted geometry association MSC Apex now allows you to use the facet body tool on previously created faceted geometry, allowing you to refine the faceted geometry through an iterative process or create NURBS geometry from faceted geometry. This allows you to make multiple tries at creating NURBS geometry vs having only one attempt allowed.
Surface Meshing Enhancements
- Improved incremental surface meshing Arbitrary holes are now supported in addition to washers, and the workflow has been adjusted accordingly.
File Import Enhancements:
- .stl stereolithography files are now supported for import
Usability Enhancements:
- Fixes for previously identified issues
