Cycling '74 has released version 8 of Max and the company is calling it "the closest thing to a mind-expanding drug Max has ever had".
The visual programming language has taken on a raft of new improvements in the latest iteration, most notably the introduction of the new MC. objects.

MC, we're presuming, stands for multi-channel and Cycling '74 is sure it will "transform how you imagine sound design". It makes patches with 100 channels of audio look as simple as those with a single channel.

It seems MC will give you the ability to manipulate multiple audio channels and operations with fewer objects.

Much of the development in version 8 has been focussing on performance. Cycling '74 now claim that Max will launch 20 times faster on Windows than before and load patches up to four times as quick. Performance as a whole is improved, with complex UI operations being significantly more responsive.

Another big update is the ability to control your patches with hardware, without the need to patch. In the new Mappings Mode, you can assign physical controls to your patch in just three steps; simply enter Mappings Mode, select a slider and then move your controller - done.

Other improvements include a new Search Sidebar which allows you access to thousands of Max examples and tutorials that ship with Max, along with results from web forums and in-depth articles.

Lighting.
- Perfect Exposure. More effective than traditional brightness, Perfect Exposure lets you maintain Real Color Photography™ without clipping or washing out. Our technology overcomes the distortions caused by a single aperture by replicating the way your eye gathers light and correcting your exposure pixel by pixel.
- Depth. Brings out the contrast in a photo without messing up the other colors. Perfectly Clear uses a patented algorithm that manages the dynamic range in a unique way, revealing the detail needed to produce this kind of depth.
- Light Diffusion. Perfectly Clear lets you create a softer look with warmer tones and captures the perfect portrait even in broad daylight.
- Skin & Depth bias. For realistic lighting on skin.

Color.
- Photoshop is powerful, but for Full Color Spectrum, Light Diffusion, automatic red-eye removal, you have to turn to Perfectly Clear.
- Vibrancy. Perfectly Clear mimics how the eye adjusts saturation, providing a color-vibrant photo. Sometimes digital cameras can cause photos to look washed out/faded because they have a linear response to light. But our solution overcomes this problem by looking at each channel independently.
- Fidelity. We reproduce the full visual spectrum of colors seen by the eyes, enabling you to capture purples properly every time.
- Tint. In the days of film, you had to carry around different films and filters for different times of day-all to get the lighting source correct. To remove nasty tints-from tungsten, fluorescent, incandescent, IR-Perfectly Clear searches for an abnormal tint, then reveals the great photo underneath.

Clarity.
- Sharpening. Traditional sharpening methods also sharpen weak signal and introduce halos. Perfectly Clear only searches for strong signal and creates sharp, clear photos with zero artifacts.
- Noise removal. Perfectly Clear automatically reduces noise 2-3 stops with one click (unlike Ps or Lr which requires multiple slider bar adjustments). ISO 1600 is effectively reduced to ISO 200-400 without blurring or losing details.

Eyes.
- Red-eye. We sourced this technology from our wonderful partner FotoNation, which is embedded in hundreds of millions devices. It detects and corrects imperfections as quickly as 5 images per second with no manual intervention.
- Unlike Photoshop, Perfectly Clear not only removes red eye automatically, it also includes Eye Enhance, Eye Enlarge, Dark Circle removal, and the ability to automatically add 5 different Catchlights.

Skin.
Perfectly Clear lets you smooth and tone skin, adjust blush, and remove infrared, shine and blemishes. Our robust, automatic correction uses advanced facial detection techniques to identify age, gender and key facial features including texture and skin tone. As a result, we're able to determine the precise amount of corrections to apply automatically. All of our Beautify corrections are much faster than doing this manually in Ps or Lr which will takes minutes per image instead of seconds.

Face.
Perfectly Clear lets you whiten teeth for the perfect smile and saves a painful trip to the dentist. Plus, it can sharpen the look of your lips and tone your face shape for a more slender and youthful appearance.

Undo/Redo
Perfectly Clear makes it easy to experiment to find the perfect image. Try out presets, flexible controls, and LOOKs to get the perfect image. If you find that you've changed your mind. we offer an undo and redo command that lets you explore previous edits.

Visual Presets
Want to see what your presets will look like without even having to apply them? Our preset browser has a new icon view. You can now see each preset group as useful thumbnail icons. You'll see what the preset looks like without even having to apply it. See one you like? Just click its thumbnail to try it out.

Visual LOOKs
Our unique LOOKs technology makes it easy to apply digital film stocks, creative color grades and more. You can also quickly browse the results of different LOOKs without having to apply one by one. The LOOKs browser is a quick way to preview and choose the image of your choice. Do you like the list view for organizing or searching? It's still there! We've got you covered however you want to work!

Preset & LOOKs Favorites
With so many great presets and LOOKs, chances are you'll find your favorites. We'd like you not to have to search for those each time. Simply click the hollow star icon to mark a favorite. Now they're automatically added to the Favorites group at the top of the LOOKs and Presets browser. Want to save more time? You can load your Favorites Preset set in the top toolbar.

Graduated Filters
Are you a landscape photographer? It's easier now than ever before to make specific details in an image pop! Athentech has released a new product called Perfectly Clear Essentials. This product contains all of the Tone, Color, and Details controls that can give you perfect exposure, great color, and sharp photos with no noise. All of the preset functionality, as well as Creative LOOKs and Corrective Filters, are also unlocked.

• 40+ useful adjustments for perfect exposure, color, and details • Includes 32 Useful Presets for fixing most photographic challenges
• Includes 42 Creative LOOKs to stylize your images
• Unlock more features your favorite presets or LOOKs
• Create your own presets and share with others

It is virtually identical to Perfectly Clear Complete except in two ways.
• It removes controls for all of the Beautify technology. These adjustments are helpful for portrait and wedding photographers, but not really useful to landscape and travel folks.
• It removed the batch export module from Lightroom.

While both of the above are useful, they are designed for pros who need the most time-saving options for processing portraits. If you do need portrait adjustments, you can easily add the Kristina Sherk preset packs or a new forthcoming one from Matthew Jordan Smith.

You can also create your own presets and exchange your favorite settings with other users. This is a great deal if you want the time-saving features as well as advanced technology to unlock perfect exposure and sharper images.

Perfectly Clear Workbench is an application that uses Athentech's Perfectly Clear image correction libraries and is made available to demonstrate the capabilities of the Perfectly Clear processing libraries, face detection library and to allow a quick export of the processing settings for use.

One of the key features in Workbench is the ability to "export to API" when saving a Preset. This allows you to make image corrections in Workbench and tune the settings to match your style and correction needs. Then, you can quickly export these settings to a text file - ready to be copy / pasted into your source code with our image correction SDK.

Monochrome and CMYK images must be converted to RGB before using Perfectly Clear. RAW files must be opened through Adobe Camera RAW and loaded into Photoshop to be accessible to Perfectly Clear.
