Eidolon | Spectral Ensemble Machine
Eidolon is a unique multi-effect device that brings together a bucket-brigade delay ensemble, spectral effects, a tap delay and tremolo. It is capable of completely smudging, smoothing and thickening almost anything you feed into it. Most of all, it is designed as a tool of experimentation. Let Eidolon lead you down sonic pathways you have yet to explore and discover new sounds you never imagined!

Ensemble Effect
What if you could dissect a classic '70s string synthesizer and take out its ensemble effect to process whatever sound you want? That is what we asked and we put the result in Eidolon. Eidolon's first circuit is a bucket-brigade delay. It has six short delays wired in series and all of them are slowly modulating at different speeds. This gives Eidolon a calmly rolling chorus effect that makes just about everything sound lush and warm.

Spectral Blurring
Eidolon's spectral blur section analyzes incoming audio, writes it to a small database and then interpolates all of those values very, very quickly. In plain English, it smudges your audio much like a painter smudges paint across a canvas. Turn piano phrases into cloudy ambient smears. Remove the transients from drum beats. Make your guitar blur into the horizon of the next measure. These are just some of the ways you can use the Blur to innovate new sounds.

Delay and Tremolo
Finally, after the ensemble and spectral blurring, the signal passes through a multi-tap delay and tremolo effect. Adding delay to the signal chain augments the sound with echoes and space. The tremolo effect makes the sound pulsate from slow peaks and valleys to a rapid, oscillating frenzy. Between these two effects (in conjunction with Ensemble and Blur) one can travel many dimensions away from the original material into a vast world of experimentation!

Among other things, today's update fixes a couple of display issues. If you have ever seen blank lines in the main song table-this update is for you. In general, beaTunes will feel a little faster and scrolling around in huge lists should be more responsive. Also related to graphics: the choice of GPU (graphics adapter) on OS X. There really is no reason why beaTunes should use the high performance GPU. Thanks to a recent Java update (8u92), beaTunes is now able to request the integrated GPU instead of the high performance one, resulting in lower power consumption. And as beaTunes comes bundled with a Java runtime, there is no need for you to update your system's Java to get this feature.

Another important bug fix deals with Album Replay Gain. Because the beaTunes analysis queue processes multiple tracks in parallel and independently, computing Album Replay Gain is a little like dealing with a pink, spotted elephant: All tracks for an album have to be loaded, analyzed and the metadata has to be written, while another analysis thread may already work on one of those files. Compared to all other values beaTunes computes, this is a big exception and requires some extra synchronization logic. For 4.6.1, this logic has been completely rewritten.
