HEEDS MDO 2019.2 - Release Notes

The release of HEEDS 2019.2 is full of new features and upgrades to accelerate your engineering design processes.

With the addition of two new portals, HEEDS now supports more than 40 portals. We are committed to enhancing the automation capabilities of HEEDS through investments in new portals as well as updates to the existing portals. We believe these updates are key to allowour users to easily create complex multi-disciplinary workflows in HEEDS.

Our product priority is to ensure that HEEDS can be easily and productively used by non-experts. The success our users have had in optimization with SHERPA is a testament to this approach. With this release, we are starting the journey of bringing the same approach to surrogate modeling with the release of Adaptive Sampling.

HEEDS 2019.2 offers several other new features and updates that continue to streamline design space exploration through improved exploration, results processing, and automated analysis tools. SWith Design Space Exploration at the forefront of an organization's innovative drive, entire product lines can see a transformative and dramatic change in performance. All enhancements and updates of HEEDS 2019.2 increase usability, connectivity and productivity to put all users more in control of the design process and of the analysis of results.

NEW SCRIPT RECORDING AND PLAYBACK
HEEDS 2019.2 now supports a new Python API to boost productivity. Scripts can be recorded from the user interface and replayed for repetitive tasks. Accompanying this feature is a fully documented API manual. This is a first release with planned enhancements in subsequent releases.
NEW PYTHON SUPPORT
Users can now access the latest Python capabilities! Support for Python has been extended to include Python 3.6 along with Python 2.7. As of this release, users will be able to choose which version of Python to use for their expressions, analyses and portals.
NEW PROCESS VIEW INSPECTION TOOLS
A new view has been created to graphically cross-check the process setup. With this new feature, users can easily interrogate details of a complex workflow and quickly validate data flow, shared parameters, and dependencies. The new view supports multi-select to visualize entities (like parameters, files, etc.) shared among selected analyses.
NEW ADAPTIVE SAMPLING STRATEGY
Adaptive Sampling uses multiple strategies with the aim of improving surrogate fits for a chosen response to gain more insight. When a limited number of designs are available, Adaptive Sampling can generate a better surrogate model when compared to traditional space-filling designapproaches.
NEW INVENTORAND ASPEN HYSYS PORTALS
New portals have been added to HEEDS 2019.2 to easily interface with your existing investment in simulation. Automatically connect to Aspen HYSYS and Autodesk Inventor without the need for custom scripting or manual manipulation.
ENHANCED REMOTE EXECUTION
HEEDS further leverages existing hardware investments with a new client server-based model offers a more robust and efficient solution that uses fewer resources. This new simpler solution requires no utility file transfers.

HEEDS MDO is a robust multidisciplinary design optimization softwarepackage that automates the search for better solutions within a given design space and dramatically reduces design time.

HEEDS MDO enables you to quickly find designs that perform extremely well according to multiple criteria, while simultaneously satisfying multiple constraints and using a large number of variables. In an overnight run, HEEDS can produce results that would take weeks to accomplish manually.With HEEDS MDO, you have access toall of the following design exploration and optimization capabilities:

- Identifying optimal solutions within a given design space using advanced mathematical search algorithms and strategies.
- Performing multiple-objective, Pareto-optimization studies to generate a Pareto set of optimal designs which let you perform trade-off studies between conflicting objectives.Performingdesign of experiments (DOE) studies to examine how selected variables affect a design.

- Executingand post-processing designs that you specify.

Depending on your project requirements, you may use HEEDS MDOto perform any of the above functions. On a given project, you might use more than one, selecting the one that is most appropriate for each stage of your project's development. For example, you might set up a parameter optimization study and search for an optimized design that meets all of your objectives and constraints. After that, you might take your best design(s) and use a DOE study to identify critical tolerances based on the sensitivity of the design to certain variables. Individual designs couldbe studied further by testing their robustness and reliabilityin yet another study in the project.

Although the technology behind HEEDS MDO and its powerful search engine is complex, the software itself is user-friendly and easy to use. What's new in this release:

- Added: R21 Support
- Added: New Licensing system. You'll need to reapply the license.
- Added: Resizable previews in Content Browser (both local and online repository).
- Added: Progress Bar and cancel button on Online Repository in Content Browser.
- Added: Extended Material loading from mat.thea files into Cinema 4D. Proceduras are correctly loaded as Shaders into Thea Materials.

Siemens Simcenter SPEED offers a complete solution for electric machine design motoring and generating, covering a wide range of electric machines types. Simcenter SPEED includes all the necessary theoretical and physical models for a rapid e-machine design with a flexible approach.

More specifically, automation makes use of the scripting capabilities as driving Simcenter SPEED on its own or together with other programs, such as STAR-CCM+. This automated workflow follows the scripting approach and uses STAR-CCM+ and its multiphys-ics solvers for electromagnetic, thermal (full 3D conjugate heat transfer) and mechanical stress analysis along with Java scripts to provide and feed back additional information to Simcenter SPEED.

HEEDS is a powerful software package in the Simcenter portfolio that auto-mates the design space exploration process. Simcenter SPEED provides a builtin graphical user interface to access HEEDS in two ways: as a full HEEDS installation and as an integrated add-on tool. The ECFM-3Z combustion model enables you to quickly and easily setup and simulate the performance of a gasoline direct-injection engine. Together with Design Manager, you can now automatically run engine speed and load sweeps for the generation of digital performance maps.

Accurate and efficient refraction and reflection modeling
Photon-Monte-Carlo is a statistical method for solving radiation; it's the fastest and most accurate approach available and is especially important when needing to model refraction and reflection. This is necessary when considering the design of modern headlamps, which have multiple radiation emitting sources. These, along with the sun, can create hot spots as the light is reflected and refracted, which can damage the headlamp. Now you can accurately predict these hotspots and modify the design appropriately.

Seamless co-simulation with Nastran
All practical flow problems involve the interaction between fluids and solids. In order to avoid overly conservative (and therefore uncompetitive) designs, it is necessary to account for those effects directly. Fluid-structure interaction simulations using co-simulation require two different tools to work together in unison. The Simcenter STAR-CCM+ to Simcenter Nastran Co-Simulation addresses the challenges related to bi-directional data exchange. In addition, it lets engineers work in the environment they are most comfortable with. The flow engineer works in Simcenter STAR-CCM+, while the structural engineer can work in Simcenter 3D.

Search and collect similar 3D-CAD parts
One of the biggest challenges when working with large assemblies is organizing the geometry or removing geometry errors before simulation. Unfortunately, engineers can spend a lot of time on these steps that don't really add value. The new 3D-CAD Search tool lets you easily search large assemblies for the parts you want. You can search for exact parts, parts that are similar, or parts that have characteristics you define. It also identifies clashes between parts. The search tool automates what can be a time-consuming manual process. This vastly improves the experience for the engineer and means they spend the time that they save on what's really important: getting simulation results that drive design improvements.

New Features and Changes - Date: August 9, 2019

New Features
- Accessing memory items outside a Clock-Driven Loop-Use the new Read Memory (G Dataflow) and Write Memory (G Dataflow) nodes to read or write data to a memory item outside a Clock-Driven Loop.
- Accessing registers outside a Clock-Driven Loop-Use the new Read Register (G Dataflow) and Write Register (G Dataflow) nodes to read or write data to a register outside a Clock-Driven Loop.
The following nodes include error in and error out terminals:
- Read Memory (Clock-Driven Logic)
- Write Memory (Clock-Driven Logic)
- Read Register (Clock-Driven Logic)
- Write Register (Clock-Driven Logic)

Behavior Changes
The following I/O Channels nodes have non-functional terminals removed:
- Read I/O (Clock-Driven Logic)-The valid output is removed.
- Set Output Data (Clock-Driven Logic)-The ready output is removed.
- Set Output Enable (Clock-Driven Logic)-The settled output is removed.
The LabVIEW NXG FPGA Module is no longer required to perform the following tasks:
- Access FPGA targets in the Design view palette of SystemDesigner
- View or edit FPGA code
- Deploy bitfiles (.lvbitx) to FPGA targets
- Migrate LabVIEW FPGA functions to LabVIEW NXG
The LabVIEW NXG FPGA Module and relevant drivers are required to perform the following tasks:
- Use driver-specific features in your FPGA code
- Run or compile FPGA code
- Migrate LabVIEW FPGA code that relies on specific drivers to LabVIEW NXG

LabVIEW NXG 4.0 FPGA Module Known Issues

This document contains the LabVIEW NXG 4.0 FPGA Module known issues that were discovered since the release. Not every issue known to NI will appear on this list; it is intended to only show the severe and more common issues that can be encountered.

744863 - Errors outside of Clock-Driven Logic can incorrectly refer to the source of the error as an Optimized FPGA VI.
Some errors outside of Clock-Driven Logic can incorrectly refer to "Optimized FPGA VI" as the source of the error. One example is an un-initialized shift register on a For Loop

LabVIEW NXG 4.0 FPGA Module Bug Fixes

The following items are a subset of known issues fixed between LabVIEW NXG 3.1 FPGA Module and LabVIEW NXG 4.0 FPGA Module.

572838 Reported Compile Duration may be incorrect after reconnecting to compilation
718663 A generic back-end compile error is thrown when compiling designs with DMA FIFOs or DRAM in clock domains of 500 MHz or greater. The case is not supported and a more descriptive error message has been added.
727385 I/O Constants are incorrectly renamed when a FAM associated with that I/O is removed and then re-added.
704962 Memory resources configured for LUT storage display a read latency of 1 cycle in the disabled drop-down configuration menu when the actual read latency is 0 cycles.

LabVIEW FPGA is a software add-on for LabVIEW that you can use to more efficiently and effectively design FPGA-based systems through a highly integrated development environment, IP libraries, a high-fidelity simulator, and debugging features. You can create FPGA VIs that combine direct access to I/O with user-defined LabVIEW logic to define custom hardware for applications such as digital protocol communication, hardware-in-the-loop simulation, and rapid control prototyping. Though the LabVIEW FPGA Module contains many built-in signal processing routines, you can also integrate existing hardware description language (HDL) code as well as third-party IP.

The LabVIEW NXG FPGA Module is the next generation of LabVIEW FPGA and contains only a subset of the features and hardware support in the LabVIEW 2018 FPGA Module.
