SideFX Houdini FX 17.5.325 (x64) | 1.2 Gb

SideFX has released a new sneak peek for Houdini 17.5.325, the next update to its 3D animation and FX software. Version 17.5 introduces PDG which is designed to enhance SideFX's procedural architecture to distribute tasks and manage dependencies to better scale, automate, and analyze content pipelines for Film, TV, Games, Advertising and VR. In addition, there have been a number of enhancements to key features such as FLIP Fluids, volumes, destruction tools and more.

Houdini 17.5.325 - Release Date July 22, 2019:

- Json Input and Json Output will now generate static by default when set to Automatic work item generation. Json Output work items will now properly inherit their parent work item index.
- HOUDINI_LMIFO_VERBOSE has 4 different behaviours:
. 0:no expiring license information is shown.
. 1:expiring license information is only shown in the terminal
. 2:expiring license information is only shown in a graphical pop-up
. 3:expiring license information is shown in the terminal and as a
. graphical pop-up.

About SideFX Houdini FX 17.5. The release introduces the Procedural Dependency Graph (PDG), described by SideFX as a potentially industry-changing new technology.

PDG, also due to become available in a new standalone application, PilotPDG, enables users to specify the dependencies between different parts of a project's task graph, making it possible to do anything from running simulations and renders in parallel to 'assetizing' entire sections of a studio's pipeline.

SideFX also expects PDG to form the basis of new machine learning workflows within Houdini.

Other new features in Houdini 17.5 include distributed fluid simulation, a high-quality new GPU-accelerated viewport smoke shader, and updates to the Vellum multiphysics solver.

Support for High-resolution Monitors

Solid Edge 2020 has improved support for bitmaps, controls, and other graphic elements displayed on high-resolution monitors (monitors with resolution greater than 3500 pixels).

When you use a monitor with DPI greater than 170 pixels, we recommend you adjust settings in two locations:

Set the primary DPI scaling resolution for the entire desktop using the Microsoft Windows Control Panel.

Adjust the relative sizing of Solid Edge design tools on the Helpers tab in the Solid Edge Options dialog box.

Temp File Space

Solid Edge uses temporary file space to save files and to store memory mapped display files. Using temporary file space increases system performance and is more robust should you encounter network problems.

You should ensure that you have twice as much free temporary file space as the size of the largest file being saved. The file size includes the size of the assembly, the size of the subassemblies that are being used, and the size of the part files.

Running Solid Edge creates temporary memory mapped files that are used to support the display system. When you open assembly and part files, memory mapped files are created in the temp directory on the hard drive only while the files are displayed. The memory mapped files are deleted after exiting the Solid Edge file.

Running Solid Edge creates a file named DCCACHE.tmp in the user temp folder. This file is a cache of the file icons displayed on the dialogs for browsing, opening, and saving files.

If Solid Edge files are not properly associated with the product, try deleting this file and restarting the product.

It is good practice to periodically delete files in temporary folders so your system is not unnecessarily using disk space.

Page File Size
For optimum Solid Edge performance, we recommend you set a custom page file size. The Initial size and the Maximum size should be the same. They should both be set to double the RAM size.

Solid Edge Maintenance Packs
We release Maintenance Packs for CRITICAL items only. Solid Edge 2020 maintenance packs will be released through December 31, 2020.

Individual adjustment of brightness of highlight/shadow area of photograph
The Highlight/Shadow sliders in the exposure adjustments allows you to manually adjust the brightness of the bright (highlight) and intensity of dark (shadow) portions of the image. Even when shooting subjects with intense contrast while using exposure compensation, it is sometimes still difficult to control the exposure. Here, simply adjust the "highlight/shadow" individually during RAW development to achieve a result suitable for the image of the Photographer.

Partial correction tool
Partial tone correction can be applied to specified area of the image. For example, brightness and White balance can be partially adjusted. The selection methods of the correction area include "circular correction filter", "gradual correction filter", "brush", etc., and can be corrected by carefully specifying the area.

Blurred / Sharp periphery functions
You can blur or sharpen the periphery of the specified range. Blurred periphery produces a close-up effect by blurring the periphery of your subject. In addition, if the image is shot with the aperture opening value of the lens and the resolution of the peripheral area drops, the "Sharp periphery" can be used to make a good correction.

Auto adjustment button
The Auto adjustment buttons for Auto exposure bias, Auto White Balance Setting, and Automatic Level Correction, which are suitable for the respective images, have been recently added. The Auto adjustment button is recommended for those who are "having a first try at RAW Development" or say "RAW Development has so many adjustment options and don't know what to do."
